Argh I'm having trouble with style....I can't decide whether I should go for a more photorealistic look or keep it painter-ish like this one....Anyways!
This is a character from my book named Amarigen. She's an assassin sent in the guise of a Kortirian ambassadress to the mighty Shoerenin Empire. Unfortunately, she's not much of a people person....
I used a photo reference of Natalie Dormer for the initial sketch, but soon discarded the reference and repainted with no reference.
Done in Photoshop CS4 in Lab mode, but I had to switch to RGB mode to save it as a jpeg....not sure I like the converstion. Eh.

That looks awesome, I really like this style of "painter-ish". The shading on her face and her hair kick ass but my favourite part is her eyes...they sort of draw you into the image. Keep up the amazing work Sen!

Oddly enough, I think the hair is one of my favourite parts. The little wispies are simply perfect!
There is something that strikes me as a little off with her mouth region, however. The actual formation of the lips seems right, but the way it interfaces with the rest of her face doesn't look quite right to me. Sorry! Here I am trying to give you a good bit of critique and I'm being all ambiguous and stuff.
Regardless, the overall expression of her face is spot on (as usual). She definitely looks like a she could snap your neck in a second, or, if you only knew her that way, like she could politically outmanoeuvre you ruthlessly and without mercy.

For the lips, I'd say it's because the upper lip appears to be slightly bigger/stick out farther then the lower.
Despite that, my first thought when I saw this was how much it made me think of you.

Noticed this piece when I was playing about in the forums... I think the painting is beautiful as it is, but what may be bothering you might be the slight angle to the left, it kinda looks like the face may be angled more that way but I do see a bit of hesitation there.. like you had trouble deciding if you wanted her straight forward or to the left...

Hey, that's exactly what happened! Originally I was painting her with her face to the left a little, but I couldn't make it work and decided to go for a more straight-on effect.

An Artists eyes never fail.. The thing bothering you is that when you decided to go for a straight-on effect, you forgot to move the lips! A slight shift of the lips to the right would correct that. I'm not sure I would bother if I were you, art never breaks into "perfection" unless it is viewed from a mother's eyes.
