Technical Information
The Lightwave Barrier is an energy field which blocks both physical and energy weapons. Through the use of multiple emitters, the system generates a 360-degree barrier, preventing any energy or projectile weapons from penetrating it. However, this system also prevents the exit of anything from within the barrier. Thus, the shutdown of multiple emitters is required for anything to leave or enter the barrier. Due to the high power requirements, the system was originally only used to protect the asteroid fortress, Artemis, and became known as the "Umbrella of Artemis". Later, an improved version used by Mobile Suits called "Armure Lumiere" was developed.

History

Developed by the Eurasian Federation of the Earth Alliance, the lightwave barrier was used to protect the Federation's asteroid fortress Artemis and became known as the "Umbrella of Artemis". Despite this powerful defense system, Artemis was considered to be of no important strategic value. The Umbrella of Artemis was eventually breached, when Nicol Amalfi utilized his GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam's Mirage Colloid Stealth System to get close to the asteroid undetected and destroy the barrier's emitters while the barrier was deactivated. Two emitters were collected by Ryusei Fudou for use in developing a MS-Scaled Version.
Later during the First Alliance-PLANT War, the Eurasian Federation created a scaled-down variation of the Lightwave Barrier for use by mobile suits, the Armure Lumiere system. The Armure Lumiere was first used in the Eurasian's CAT1-X Hyperion Gundams. This system was also equipped onto the ZGMF-X09A-DX Justice Gundam DX and ZGMF-X10A-EX Freedom Gundam EX, which was reverse engineered by Ryusei Fudou with help from the mechanics of the Three Ships Alliance.
