Amethyst Quartz (Purple-Hued Silicon Dioxide Crystal [SiO2])Rutile Inclusions (Fibrous Titanium Dioxide Crystals [TiO2])
Rutile and Quartz have a similar molecular structure. I'm willing to bet that Titanium impurities in this Amethyst Quartz replaced some of the Silicon bonds in the Quartz lattice and grew outward from that point.
Fun Fact: Rutile, or Titanium Dioxide is a substance used in a lot of everyday things to produce a white pigment. It is in everything from the paint on your walls to the toothpaste you use.
