Description
Download for WallpaperThis was one of his signature moves that I made up. The claws had a metal component and could be heated prior to the attack to inflict burns.
The first of two pictures intended as replacements for wallpapers I used to have on my old account.
I know, not perfect... But considering the implementation of a lot of recent advice, it is a lot better than previous work.
Things changed in the making of this image:
New things:
Though it is barely visible, I attempted to implement the very subtle scaling-texture again in a different way. But it caused a bit of a mess near any boundary lines... I tried to get rid of several of them after that. Thankfully, it isn't that noticeable.
Like I said, not the cleanest lineart and shading I've done. But overall, the experimentation shows promise.

The eyes do look better-aligned now, yeah. Still artistic license if you sit back and analyze it, but an acceptable level attributable to art style now.

It's going to be difficult to change them too much without making the eyes look unnatural for a charmander XP
I think that is my biggest problem with trying to fix the eyes.

Again, it's good enough now. Improvement is possible no matter what, but at this stage it's probably not worth the time to focus further on the eyes.
I can imagine how Charmander anatomy makes the mouth frustrating...

I further complicate the mouth issue with my alterations to the anatomy; Male char muzzles of my design have a squared-off shape. Not a lot of char references for this. (There are others I can adapt to)

You wouldn't mind 'disambiguating' that, would you? XP

Looked like a move from a fighting game, so I assigned it the command "Quartercircle forward + Kick," as one would input on an arcade stick.

This is, I think, the most awesome picture of Robert/Phoenix you've drawn. ^^ I really like the lighting, and the red glow in his eyes is great.

That glow is something I've been trying to get right for years. Tinkering around with the blow/Reflect settings of the layers worked out right for once. I was going for that over-bright, bleedy-glare effect that some reaverbots in MegaMan Legends have.

Well, you've succeeded, I think. I have to admit that I have not played the Mega Man Legends-games yet, so I can't really tell how it looked on the Reaverbots. ^^" Though I've ordered the second one from Amazon. ^^

Okay, for the second game, there are these floating reaverbots that will track you, and blow up like grenades if they get too close. They do the eye-thing I mentioned here.

Ah, alright. I will keep my eyes out on those. They sound really dangerous, though. How hard to defeat are they?

They aren't that bad... Usually just one hit does them in. But they are quiet and like to sneak-up on you XP But keep your distance; the explosions have range.

WOW!
This one has much less of a cartoon style to it. The eyes are great. The only significant part which isn't an improvement is the visable lineart around the head.

I have not yet found a viable solution to my pixel lineart. One possible solution involves me retracing certain parts of it at insanely high resolution and scaling it down to produce a smooth antialiased effect... But that would probably be a waste of time. Also, I decided to reduce, not remove, the lines in this one. I'll try removing them in another image.
