Description
Scene from A.C.X. -- WARPED! Prologue: Phalanx, ACX #01Battered and bruised, Phalanx makes his way almost entirely back to safety from a mission-gone-bad, only to be stopped in his tracks by a harrowing missile attack aimed at taking care of his little "interference."
[Actual Story Excerpt:]
He was walking past a gigantic thirty-foot tall cactus when he heard a noise come from off in the distance. It got louder after awhile, soon turning into a thunderous roar that flew towards the dam with a flame trailing it. It hit the dam and exploded with tremendous force, causing it to burst like a giant concrete water balloon. A wall of cascading water poured out of the disintegrating structure and flowed down into the valley below toward him. His eyes grew with disbelief and his heart stung with ruin. “The b-bastards... They’re going to try to wash all of the evidence away?!”

'Gigantic thirty-foot cactus'
Why does that sound important? It's been ages since I read it all the way through

"If you have a gun hanging above the fireplace, it had better go off by the third act."
--Common rhetoric on story plotting
It's not simply there for no reason. I'll give you that. But by the time it is revealed, most have forgotten about it.

Is it? Then it must be a reference to an actual example somewhere. Interesting info. Nice to have a name for it.
(I'll admit, the conversation with that guy can get annoying at times, but the incessant questioning can actually keep my mind on things I can, at times, forget.)

Heh you know he could probably read that if he comes back
and Chekov is the guy who said the quote. It's actually somewhat famous. XD

I really don't care. I think maybe he gets the point anyway.
Well, I know it's famous. I've only heard it EVERYWHERE (though most recently from an English Professor. Imagine that.)

Too true
Yeah I remember now; I remember thinking how ridiculously big it was but it took me the entire book to make the connection
Yeah yeah I won't tell anyone
