I should've made an animated version, or one of those 3D glasses things

this almost looks edible out of curiosity how long did it take to render?

Hmm not sure, one of them I left overnight and one was a bit quicker.

Really nice work, love how the light passes through the shader!

Whoa... HUNGRY!
Like orange flavoured honey on candy or fruit! Aha, this is a cool piece though. Eye catching colours that give it an element of science fiction (or a high quality banner picture on a corporate website that has some motivational saying like "Not a company, but a team of individuals working together to bring you global connectivity" or something else that has nothing to do with the awesome picture).

lol, synergy orange jelly goop, yum Thanks, if I had more energy I wouldn't mind doing logos for websites etc, just all those critical people you have to work for... "make the white whiter" "make the silver shinier"

Ahahaha! That reminds me the Oatmeal's take on designing for work.. have you heard of The Oatmeal? Look up "Design Hell" if you are interested. It's quite amusing

how fast is indigo actually? Is it faster than maxwell or is it about the same? Would you or are you using it also for production (assuming you do some commision work aswell with it)

sentimentalfreak In reply to THExDUKE [2011-12-08 09:40:25 +0000 UTC]
I haven't used Maxwell for a long time so I don't really know if it's faster, they definitely have a huge amount more money backing them compared to indigo, but unbiased rendering can only go so fast, and the Indigo guys are quite brilliant minds.
The license I had for the previous version was only educational, so no actual production work, but if I had a license I could use it for production work. At the moment the jobs I could do might be a bit limited because the max plugin is outdated for the new indigo, but they are releasing a totally new max plugin this week/fornight

Ha, I wouldn't want to be around with hot glass flying everywhere. Thanks.

Looks like orange soda
I see a bit of noise but it kinda adds to the render. How long did this take to render using GPU?

sentimentalfreak In reply to Lefthandedhero [2011-12-02 09:08:14 +0000 UTC]
A few hours+ atleast, I only have an old Geforce GTS 250 and phenom 9950, so on an i7 + GTX580 it might be like 10-30 minutes, it's a rough guess though. I really have to upgrade.

I see.
On a related note, I'm liking what I'm seeing from VRay RT so far:

I just need to upgrade my video card

Yeah vray RT is awesome, octane is awesome, I love renderers The only problem with GPU rendering is that the GPU has very limited ram, and with most "professional" work needed millions to billions of polys for foliage to who knows what... they are still limited in their usefulness.
I'd love 9 x GTX480s

Lefthandedhero In reply to sentimentalfreak [2011-12-03 07:22:26 +0000 UTC]
Aye, that is true. Typically I deal with scenes that have million+ polygons, not to mention things like displacement that occur at render time. Come on Nvidia, give us 12GB cards! Heh.
Glad to see this change in 3D though; I have a hunch that in 10-15 years pretty much all rendering will be real-time - but ultimately, be resourceful and use what you got. Pixar did it, 15 years ago!
