You join the body and head meshes in one and then remove double verticies, but keep in mind that if your objects for head and body have different armatures it will mess up your pose, so before combining the objects make sure your modifiers for armature are applied. If you have the xps model with only one armature for all objects then you can just combine the meshes and remove doubles.

Same honestly, the new design isn't bad, I think the classic outfit should be at least unlockable in game, haven't played it yet so maybe it already is.
