Here's a member of the Sentinels I haven't drawn in a while, despite the fact that he has one of my favorite power sets. Kevin Hunter, codename: Apex, one of the fiercest members of the Sentinel Corps that strikes fear into the hearts of many criminals. For those who are new to my characters, let me bring you up to speed on his powers, because they're rather interesting. In a nutshell, it's animal mimicry, but a little more complex. See, imagine if humanity went down a different evolutionary path. The main reason we are on the top of the food chain, is because of our advanced minds and ability to use tools and weapons, take those away, and we are essentially prey animals, with no claws, no fangs, no extraordinary abilities you would find in the animal kingdom. However, after volunteering for a Talon Corp. biological experiment, Kevin's genetic structure was altered forever, turning him into a true apex predator. After the procedure, Apex's body became more animalistic, his nails had become razor sharp claws, and his teeth had morphed into vicious fangs. His had also gone through a dramatic change, with his heels extended and his toes outstretched, as if they were a second pair of hands. And to top it off, his senses had been greatly enhanced, giving him keen of sight that could rival a bird of prey, a sense of smell that could match a bloodhounds, and hearing that could give a bat's a run for its money. While these are all formidable abilities, they pale in comparison to his greatest ability, his rapid adaptability. Depending on the situation, his body can adjust itself to suit the situation or environment he's in, so long as it is within his anatomy's limits. This means that he can't do anything dramatic, like grow a tail, or produce wings and fly, or make gills for breathing underwater, but rather, more subtle changes. Here's a scenario, say he wants run fast for long periods of time. His body makes two adjustments, first, his legs would morph into something built for speed, such as his heels being extended, something you would see in animals like the cheetah. Second, his throat would be altered to expand a bit more, so that more oxygen can be pumped into his lungs, allowing him to maintain running speeds for longer periods of time, something that can be seen in species of lizards. With these slight alterations, Apex is able to adapt to his situation and overcome it, a literal personification of evolution. While these are amazing abilities, they do come with a catch. For one thing, his enhanced senses are often vulnerable to sensory bombardment, meaning that something as irritating to us as say, nails to a chalkboard, would be absolutely insufferable to Apex and his enhanced hearing. Also, the experiment also did a number on mental health; Kevin was already suffering from anger issues, a courtesy of his abusive childhood. As a result, what could start as a small outburst of anger could turn into a primal rage, causing him to become extremely violent and attack the cause of his anger, regardless of who get's in the way. Some of you may ask, "How is he a hero?" Well, the answer is, he's more of antihero to tell you the truth. Kevin knows he has issues, and he's not proud of the things he's done in the past. He truly wishes to turn his life around, not just for himself, but for his little sister, Tanisha, whom he's always looked after and cherished. Her love, as well as the support of the Sentinels, in particular, Aurora, give him the strength to control his anger and become something both he and his sister can be proud of.
