Description
It's been a while since I've drawn Atomic Girl, and thought it would be fun to draw a few pictures of her, starting with this scene. It's Saturday morning and Atomic Girl is is in the middle of her morning patrol of the city when she hears an alarm going off from a nearby shop. Upon arriving Atomic Girl immediately recognizes the store as GamePop, a local game shop that she was quite fond of and was even friends with the owner. While it was Atomic Girl's duty as a hero to stop the perpetrators, the fact that they had the audacity to rob her favorite game store made it somewhat personal. She discovers the store window had been smashed and steps inside, spotting three, youthful delinquents stuffing their bags with video games, controllers, and accessories, likely just to sell on the street at a higher price. Once she has seen enough, she steps out and confronts them, getting between them and their only way out of the store. No one goes robbing a game shop, not on Atomic Girl's watch.
This was a bit of challenging scene to do, even with the reference pics I had. The biggest challenge was making the background look like an actual game store, which required a lot of references. Once that was finished, the next step was coming up with parodies of video game brands and consoles. For this, I had a brainstorming sessions with some friends of mine, and with their help, we were able to come up with fictional consoles for the SCU. Maybe it was more work than it needed to be, but it's always fun doing some serious worldbuilding. I really like how the picture came out, no matter how much of a pain in the ass backgrounds can be, totally worth it.
