Description
After creating Mercurius, it dawned on me that he and Bellona should be part of a team of Roman superheroes. This would consist of four members, and what they lacked in numbers against the Sentinels, they made up for in power, and this team would be called the Pantheon, named after the Pantheon Program that created them. So, I got started on working on the other two members of the team. First up, is the leader of the Pantheon, Sol Invictus.

While Emperor Ragno's Pantheon Program certainly produced extraordinary results in the creation of Bellona and Mercurius, it was not a program he originally created. The Pantheon Program was originally developed by his late father, Primo, the previous emperor of the New Roman Empire, in an attempt to create an army of super soldiers to defeat the Allies during WW2. The volunteers were subjected to a variety of untested procedures, experiments, and serums, with most having negative or mixed results. Many of the volunteers developed terrible side effects, such as severe mental disorders, body mutations, and even cardiac arrest, resulting in many deaths. However, there were a few tests that yielded promising results, Gerardo Salvatore was one of those results. Before he was initiated in the Pantheon Program, Gerardo was merely a farmer, with a loving wife, and two children, who lived a simple, but good life in the farmlands outside of Rome. However, that all changed when he was drafted into the Legion to fight against the Allies. He fought in several battles before he was eventually selected for the Pantheon Program, though after witnessing many of his fellow volunteers, some of which he knew on a personal level, die horrendous deaths around him, he began to think he was better off on the battlefield. Once his turn to be put on the operating table came, he was injected with a sequence of experimental serums, while having him go through intense physical conditioning. After two weeks of this, the results were astounding. His body was in peak physical condition, able run as fast as an Olympic athlete and lift as much as a world-class power lifter. Further tests showed that his mental condition was not affected by the experiments, and no other negative side effects were visible, clearing him for action. He and other super soldiers were sent back to battlefield and turned the tide in many battles to the Empire's favor. However, even with these super soldiers, the New Roman Empire could not stop the Allies from advancing, and eventually winning the war. Once the fighting was done, Gerardo returned to his family, and continued his simple life as a farmer and a family man, though they were initially surprised by his new physique and many scars. As the years passed, Gerardo began to notice that he was aging much slower than the rest of his family, a side effect of the experiments done to him years ago. His wife grew old and eventually passed away from Pneumonia, while his daughter and son grew up to be young adults, but the only bit of aging Gerardo showed was a bit of graying in the hair and a few wrinkles. Still, he continued to live the simple farm life until one day, his home was graced by the presence of Emperor Ragno himself.
Ragno and Gerardo sat at the dinner table, with Ragno speaking of how it was an honor to meet a legendary war hero, and how his father, Primo, used to tell him stories of Gerardo's amazing feats when he was a boy. He then got to the point and told Gerardo that he had brought back the Pantheon Program and that it was producing far better results than it's predecessor. However, while Bellona and Mercurius were both powerful en-humans, they lacked the experience and leadership he was looking for to lead such a powerful team of heroes, he needed a veteran, he needed Gerardo. However, seeing what the first program had done to his fellow soldiers and not wanting to leave his family again, he refused and suggested he seek his other super soldier squad mates for the position. However, he was surprised when Ragno informed him that he was the last survivor of the first Pantheon Program. Though Ragno was disappointed, he understood and saw himself out, but not before stating that the offer will be on the table until he finds a suitable replacement. Gerardo had no intention of going back, but life gave him no choice when his son contracted a Ischemic Heart Disease and they could not afford the treatments for it. Gerardo had no other choice, but to turn to the Emperor, offering his services in exchange for the Emperor paying for his sons medical treatments. The emperor graciously accepted and Gerardo returned to the Pantheon Program. However, studies showed that injecting the En-Human serum that created Bellona and Mercurius would have fatal consequences for Gerardo, since the serum from the previous program was still in his system. So, to compensate for this setback, the development team decided to try a more technological approach for his enhancements. And so, Gerardo was fitted with the most advanced armor and weapons and was giving a new codename: Sol Invictus, leader of the Pantheon.
Sol Invictus is equipped with a variety of technological weapons and enhancements that make him a formidable force on the battlefield. His armor is made of a reinforced steel alloy that's durable enough to take a variety of punishment, such as bullets, blades, and even low to medium explosives. Anything higher than that and he'll use his powerful hard-light shield, which can take hits from tanks and powerful en-human attacks such as Omega's energy blasts. The shield can expand and shrink to nearly any size he needs and can even envelop around him and his comrades in a barrier if need be. The armor also increases his already impressive physical strength, which allows him to lift a car over his head, or crush every bone in a man's body. He is also equipped with powerful jet propelled boots that allow him to fly at fast flight speeds. In terms of offense, Sol Invictus is equipped with a powerful spear that is deadly in both close and long range. The spear tip can be super-heated to a temperature hot enough to pierce through tank armor with enough force behind it. However, it's most powerful feature is that it can fire a blast of condensed heat that's strong enough to punch through the armor or a warship at maximum power. The only real downsides to having all these impressive weapons and armor is it requires a lot of energy to power them. The power cell in his armor has enough power to last about 12 hours on standby, however continued use of his equipment drains it more quickly and as such, will require him to recharge his armor. He is also less mobile with that heavy armor, but he's learned to adjust his fighting style to compensate.
Sol Invictus, is a resourceful leader that the other members of the Pantheon respect and look to for guidance. He not only trains them, but he also occasionally trains the soldiers in the Legion in the ways of combat. While Sol Invictus may not be an En-Human, he has proven to be a powerful, and valued member of the Pantheon team.
