Description
This painting is older, but people still seem to like it; here's an updated version (kinda):Β seothen.deviantart.com/art/Rooβ¦Alright, the WIP for this is now in storage, though I consider this to still be a work in progress, to be refined as I get comments on it. Keith's already pointed out something re. the reflected light on the underside so I took that into account.
An Invid, from Robotech, an old anime cartoon series from the 1980s, also known in Japan as Macross (first series) and the unconnected series Mospeada.
EDIT: Based off some suggestions from Keith. keithdraws.deviantart.com/

Cheers man, it's an older picture but one I'm still pretty happy with; the comments I get from it make me realize I've gotta do more Robotech art.

No problem!!! It really does look amazing! The perspective and shadowing is flawless!!! It would take me a while to get that good. Take a look at some of my stuff and let me know your opinion.

Thank you, this pic is from a while back but I've been watching Macross, Robotech, and Mospeada recently and I think it's time I get back into drawing it.

I saw that you had some of the fun old shows attributed, which was nice.

This is awesome. The New Generation from Robotech came from an original Japanese cartoon called Genesis Climber Mospeada from 1983, where the Invid were originally called Inbit.

Thanks! And yep, I remember reading that Mospeada and the second 'series' of Robotech were separate animated programs in Japan; the Japanese don't have a natural 'v' pronunciation, so I thought the name had to have been something else originally.

Great image of a Gurab. Don't think they ever looked so mean elsewhere.
Loved Robotech as a kid. Though Point of Note Robotech and Macross are not the same (although the First 36 episodes of Robotech was a rewritten and edited version of the original Macross, Robotech in it's entirety was 3 unrelated series stitched together and rewritten). The "New Generation" portion (i.e. Invid Invasion) was from a series known as "Genesis Climber M.O.S.P.E.A.D.A.", and didn't have quite as much massive rewriting to the basic plot as the other two series (though still substantial to tie it all together). I offer this for reference, not trying to be argumentative or insulting, and hope it doesn't offend.

I appreciate the comment and you're right, I did equate MOSPEADA with Macross mistakenly, when Macross and Robotech are the connection. Chalk it up to laziness on my part.
Happy you liked the image!

Thats looking really awesome! I see you've added some lines to show the plating. You could try an old trick I used in my acrylic painting days. Try some real bright white high lights parallel to the darker lines and it will help the thing look really solid. Your stuff just keeps getting better Kyle. I'm really impressed

What's shaking man, I made the changes like you suggested and I like them. I think I may have gone a little overboard, but I also think this pic is in for another few edits before it's done.
