Description
Dean's attention roamed the busy banquet hall arm hanging over Prince Castiel's shoulders."Now, which of these fine maidens should i see wait on my lord tonight? Meggera's bosom seems raised high as the very sails of your ships and her legs" he sniggered pervertedly "They stretch far and o'er the countryside"
"There is only one pair of legs i wish to see part in my chambers this night" Castiel replied.
"Oh yes?"
"Yes"
"Whose?"
Castiel turned and leaned towards Dean lingering till his mouth hovered over Dean's ear. A single husky word whispered under the sounds of the hall.
"Thine"
Dean started, leant back and eyed Castiel with surprise. After a quick glance to make sure no-one had overheard he leaned back mirroring Castiel's action.
"Whatever would please my lord to receive, would give me pleasure to supply"
I've always had a thing for hamletxhoratio (don't roll your eyes at me nay-sayers, i can ship Shakespeare if i want, i wasn't the first and i sure as hell won't be the last) and when i saw this picture (which i will feature below) with Castiel in a modern-shakespere looking outfit i immediately wanted to do something horatio-casXhamlet-dean. However the picture featured Cas so perfectly as hamlet that in this itty bitty fic Dean is kind of sort of horatio and castiel is kind of sort of Hamlet (though they are a mix of both characters). This is also a perfect example of why i will never write a hamletxhoratio in spite of my shipping them (any Shakespearian fanfic would be unspeakably terrible).
Inspired by (and in the case of Castiel's design taken directly from) this incredible photo manip by x23x - [link]
Hamlet about Horatio and to Horatio-
Give me that man
That is not passionβs slave, and I will wear him
In my heartβs core, ay, in my heart of hearts
As I do thee.

I would never roll my eyes at you for shipping Shakespeare. We actually discussed shipping in high-school English when we were reading Shakespeare (though of course, we didn't call it "shipping").
As to the whole Horatio!CasXHamlet!Dean vs Hamlet!CasXHoratio!Dean thing, I must admit I don't remember Horatio's character that well, but I can certainly see Cas having some things in common with Hamlet, so how they ended up in this pic works for me.

That's good *many would* oooh whose ships did you discuss? you could go either way really i just think dean would suit hamlet best because hamlet's dad dies and he's left to kind of claim his father's kingdom and he's all angsty about his fathers death and his best friend is kind of the only one who keeps showing up and sticking up for him, helping him out and making sure he's ok.

Many would roll their eyes at anyone shipping anything - haters gonna hate and all that.
Throughout high-school and university when studying Shakespeare, we discussed several pairings (and if I remember correctly it was always the teacher/professor who brought the subject up): Hamlet/Gertrude (his mom!), Mercutio/Romeo, Benvolio/Romeo, Tybalt/Lady Capulet, Lord Capulet/Juliet, Romeo/Friar Laurence, Benedict/Claudio, Iago/Othello, Macbeth/Banquo. Now that I think about it, we may actually have discussed Hamlet/Claudio...
It's interesting, because while apparently many in the modern fandom "shipping" community would roll their eyes at shipping Shakespeare, respected academics have apparently been discussing various possible pairings in Shakespeare since before any of us were born. Specifically, the question of "Was Mercutio gay and in love with Romeo?" seems to be something many scholars of Shakespeare take very seriously, despite Mercutio's own impassioned rant ("Dost thou make us minstrels?") when Tybalt accuses him of that very thing. Technically, I suppose Mercutio never actually says he is not gay and is not in love with Romeo; he merely points out that "from such a union would come only discord" which could be taken to mean that he is entirely aware than Romeo is heterosexual and respects that, despite his own attraction to Romeo.
...and there you see what multiple years of studying Shakespeare will do!

true true.
that seems plausible, i mean some of the couple's you've mentioned i could totally see working and shakespere could be vague about preference sometimes. wow. maybe that is why mercutio is my favourite character in romeo and juliet (that or that he simply seems to be the most reasonable character in the whole play) XD

OMG, yes! Mercutio is most definitely the most reasonable character in the whole play! That's why he has to die, I guess. :/
