It's one of those things, I've read most of the Drizzt books, the War of the Spider Queen series and in played them in rpgs, so I have a strong idea of how I want them to look look. Just so hard to try and capture it, anyway glad she's liked.

Just noticed you're also near Manchester

I see that is pretty cool, I have played a few Drow myself actually. So I did a lot of reading from the supplement books to get a good idea about what they are like. I think you did a pretty good job with this girl.

Yes, I am. Are you near Manchester too? I actually do all my roleplaying in Manchester itself actually. Β

Thanks, I have another coming up at some point as there is one on my list of work to do.

I live in Macclesfield now, but lived in Manchester for about 15 years. I've got a small rpg group, we started on Pathfinder (Iron Kingdoms setting), then Dark Heresy and I've now got them hooked on Star Wars: Edge of the Empire. The system is great fun to play and run.Β

What sort of stuff do you play?

I see, that is pretty awesome actually.

I see, that is not too far away.Β

As for RPGs my favourite system is actually D&D 4th ed. However I have played all kinds of things and I will give most things a fair shot. I have really enjoyed Iron Kingdoms, Dragon Age, Icons, Marvel and all sorts. I am currently starting a game called "Adventure!" which looks fun so far. Β Β

Hi, I got the 4th ed. books but haven't got round to playing with the system yet.Β

There are so many systems I'd like to try out, but so little time. I'm going to give 'The One Ring' a go when we've finished the current Edge of Empire campaign.Β

What's the system for 'Adventure'?

Karla-Chan In reply to Seraph777 [2014-05-29 11:25:47 +0000 UTC]

That is fair enough, I really like it personally and it has so many nice things about the system.

I am the same, but at least currently I am getting a chance to try a couple of new things, so I am happy about that "Adenture!" uses a very old version of white wolf. So lots of d10s.Β

I ran their Medieval Vampire a long time ago, lots of d10

One of my players has played 4th ed., think he said it's good as long as you don't think of it as traditional DnD and take it on it's own merits. I started back with ADnD and played through 2nd. and 3rd. editions, so 4th was a huge change!Β

Karla-Chan In reply to Seraph777 [2014-05-30 08:05:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes, those games always use lots of d10s. Adventure! is not too bad for using a lot like some of their other games, I think maxed out in a skill you will only end up using 11 d10. I have played other games were people have had to put the rest of the d10s on my hand because I couldn't pick them all up!

I see, well it has some differences from the earlier editions, but personally I think they are improvements to be fair. I love the fact everyone has at will powers and I think it gives you more options other then basic attack all the time. They also made classes like fighter and cleric interesting in their own right.Β

Seraph777 In reply to Karla-Chan [2014-05-30 15:17:49 +0000 UTC]

I can just imagine with the D10s

I do like the way the classes pan out in 4th ed. and that everyone has abilities, I've always liked fighters and it was good to see them get some love!Β

I'm looking forward to see what 5th ed. brings, I had a look at the playtest stuff and thought it looked good. I'm hoping they strip back some of the rules, especially in combat. When we played Pathfinder I found it dragged as every move had to be monitored in combat and it killed creative dming, I like being able to add, fudge and mess to make a scene fun for the players. One of the guys new every rule by heart and it got heated whenever I tried to fudge the rules. I guess that's why I'm enjoying Edge of the Empire as it's so creative for me and players.Β

Karla-Chan In reply to Seraph777 [2014-05-30 15:24:12 +0000 UTC]

I think that fighters need to stay useful later on in the game, and I think 4th ed does that really well.

I am actually not looking forwards to 5e actually, I think it has so many terrible things about it and it is like they unlearned everything good from previous editions. I actually hated playing it! I am going to check out the final rules, because I have heard that they are very different to the play test, but I am not hopeful at all.

Yeah sadly a lot of newer games tend to have the use of miniatures and tend to track your movement. Although I have played 4th ed without that a couple of times and it can work. I know some players don't like to do it that way, but to be honest I think that is an issue with the players wanting to stick to rules as written.Β

I have not actually played Edge of the Empire actually.Β

With the Fighters, it does look like it.Β

I haven't ran 5th ed. yet, just looked at the play test rules. At least they are releasing a free basic rules PDF first, which the books expand out.Β

I'm thinking or using miniatures for 'The One Ring' as there are so many nice Lord of the Rings/Hobbit miniatures, but the combat system is pretty creative and doesn't really chart movement and position just the players stance.Β

EotE uses a dice pool, which can generate loads of different outcomes. The dice have symbols which stack successes, cancel out and add to the outcome of any roll, it brings the players in and makes them very aware of what's around them, makes the game feel very Star Wars.Β

I see, I haven't ran 5th ed but I have played it, and I was playing a Cleric. It was honestly like falling on your sword because the party needs a healer again. I felt like I was poor and people were like oh yeah, you don't get this cool thing because you have heal powers instead! Plus it was going back to the stopping my turn to heal someone else. I like how in 4th ed, it is only a minor action to heal so I still get my turn to do something other then heal.

Plus Drow seem pretty stupid in 5th ed too, they are basically as elves but with weakness to sunlight. They get no upside! Honestly though I could complain for ages about 5th ed. It do think it is a good that they are going to make the basic rules for free though.

I see that is fair enough. I think I have played a game that sounds familiar to that actually. I have not played Star wars though. Β

It is one of the really annoying things about playing a cleric, especially at lower levels when you have fewer spells to cast. Having it as a minor action was inspired.Β

Noticed you're working on Tarot Decks, something I'd love to do, but still hard to get over my awe of Crowley's.

Karla-Chan In reply to Seraph777 [2014-06-01 08:07:10 +0000 UTC]

I think so too, I really liked what the did with clerics in 4th ed actually. My main character is a cleric and I think she is a lot of fun to play. I think the person playing the healer should have fun too, and not feel like they are solely there so the other players can be awesome, and have no other use. I feel they went back to that in 5th ed.

I completed my Tarot Deck a few years ago actually, and I have been selling them on my Etsy store. I also have a deck of many things made up too!Β

That's great about the Tarot deck, like the cross hatch style you use.

I have some fun memories of players using a Deck of Many Things

Thanks so much, I do very much enjoy doing that style actually. It makes a nice change from the full colour work I do.

I have some fun memories with a Deck of Many Things too, I have never had anything bad happen from the deck either.Β
