Description
Ok, what's this? It's a monster from Yu-Gi-Oh, called Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle. I was inspired by drawing another crystal beast monster in bondage.I didn't date the pic, but as I drew it on the day of the set's sneak peek tournament, I must have drawn this around early August 2007. Something else I may ink and colour.

Nice, but the Final Fantasy Carbuncle is still cuter.

I find Yu-Gi-Oh monsters to be very interesting victims cause no one ever draws them too much!

I always think of FFVIII whenever I hear the name Carbuncle. I'm sure that isn't where it originated from, but it's the first time I heard of it when I played through my first save.
He's not very happy by this predicament is he/she/it?

A carbuncle is a creature from Latin American myth, said to have a gemstone in its head. Carbuncle is also an old name for garnet gemstones. Final Fantasy borrows a lot from myth and legend, that's where they got it from, as did the people who made that card, and also Espeon is based on a carbuncle too.
Nope, she's not happy. Not many people would - though I can think of a few.

I know about the borrowing of myth and legend that FF does, I just never looked up those besides Bahamut, Eden and some others. Carbuncle was.........something I wanted to forget because I thought it was useless, truthfully.
Well, I'm sure she'll be out in no time. Maybe.

Carbuncle's summon effect wasn't too good, barely used it. But he could junction a status magic effect (Pain!) to your weapon, which was awesome.
