A Durarara!! wallpaper! I worked on this on and off for quite a few days. It took me a lot longer than usual to be happy with it.It started out with just Izaya in the foreground since I had already edited that image of him for something else, but then it looked too empty so I added a couple of my other favorite characters on there as well. None of the characters belong to me. I didn't draw any of the images. They're all official Durarara!! art.

So, the perspective isn't supposed to be proper on this. Cetly shouldn't be as tall as the skyscrapers, even if they are more or less in the distance. The whole thing became a little more abstract than I originally intended it to be, but I have trouble making my results the same as my original vision, haha. Weirdness is good! I wish I could have jammed more characters without making the whole thing look overly cluttered, but then if that were possible there wouldn't be such a thing as overly cluttered!
And yay for Izaya in his sexy long coat. God how I wish he had worn it in the anime.
I'm unhealthily obsessed with DRRR!! right now. Everyone needs to go and watch it and experience its brilliance NOW. Seriously. It's just beyond awesome.

Okay, when Izaya was comparing everyone to shojo cards (whatever it was), did he throw down the joker card because he was the only one who was left. I think Shizuo was king and Celty was queen. Simon and the others were pawns. I think...

I think the manga is farther behind, so maybe they'll make a second season when they're caught up.

The anime is based off of the light novels. The novels are far beyond both the anime and manga. I forget how many volumes there are, but there's at least 10 and the anime only covered the first 2 or 3. The anime also only introduces around half the cast.
Maybe the manga will at least start following the light novels once it passes the anime's material. That'd be better than nothing!

I agree with that comment about the coat.
Although I love the Durarara!! anime, I actually prefer the manga because the characters are so much more... MORE in the manga if you get my drift. If only it would come out a bit faster...

I know, I wish the manga was farther into it. ;_; I like the art style of the anime more than the manga (except Shizuo. I think he's gorgeous in the manga, haha. And the coat of course) but the manga is on the better side. Izaya's psycho-ness comes out a lot more, etc.
Now if only the manga would get to the good parts.

YAH! I have great love for Shizuo's hair in the manga, but actually I just like the art in the manga a lot. Izaya in general is a lot cooler-looking in the manga. And I like how the slightly cute style of the art contrasts with the seriousness of the story. I mean, you gotta admit, even Shizuo manages to be kinda cute in the manga. Such a pity that the scanlators are so slow on it. I have a friend whose uncle lives in Japan and we've talked about trying to get the novels too. My Japanese is almost good enough to read them...

Haha, that is true now that I think about it. Shizuo manages to borderline adorable in the manga. xD Durarara!! is really good at contrasting between humor/craziness and seriousness. The art just sort of adds on to that. I like the scene where Izaya confronts the girls wanting to commit suicide in the manga a lot better (of course, I don't know how it played out in the light novels, either). He was just so much more psycho, haha. I was completely in love. xD And his first interaction with Shizuo was downright adorable. 
It would be amazing if it was scanlated faster. But then, it only has two volumes so far anyway right? So everyone just needs to work faster! xD

YES! The scene with the suicide chicks was when I fell in love with Durarara!!... I think that is one of the best-written scenes in any manga I have ever read.
I actually taught myself Japanese. I got a book. And I learned kana by searching a kana dictionary online. It's small enough to print on a single sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper. And then I happened to have the 39th Naruto book in Japanese and by the time I got to the end of it I pretty much had them all memorized. As for kanji, I've just sort of picked them up as I went. I can recognize most common kanji for meaning even if I don't know pronunciation or anything, but that's what furigana are for.

It has to be one of the best scenes in anything I've ever read. xD I wish the anime had done it better. The anime's version of it was sort of silly. They spent too much time on the girl, and I kept getting confused as to what was supposed to be happening, what the point was and everything. The manga had it focus around Izaya, which is what should have happen. I loved the whole suitcase thing, haha. God, I kept going "Oh Izaya, this is why I love you!" when reading it, haha. Every panel made me fangirl a little. xD
Oh that's dedicated! I'm too busy with school to teach myself on the side. And even when I find the time my mind feels tired and would rather do something like watch anime rather than keep learning, haha. But I do pick up phrases from anime without thinking about it. xD I'm going to try to find time to commit to teaching myself in the near future, though, since I plan on taking Japanese in a couple years and I want a background in it before I start a class. What book did you use to learn? And that's a great method for learning kana! I'll keep that in mind for when I get to that point, haha.

Umm... It's just called Teach Yourself Japanese. It's a pretty good one, though if you know enough about grammar. If you had a hard time in English class when it got past the basics of subject predicate constructions, you'll have a really tough time teaching yourself another language, I'll tell you that now.

Haha, okay, that's pretty self explanatory. xD Thank you! ^^ And I'm practically married to grammar (though I get lazy in comments and stuff sometimes...), haha. It's not the actual learning of the language that gives me trouble, just finding the time to devote to it.
