Description It's a revolution!!!! Love your body, faults and all! I'm pretty comfortable with who I am right now, although of course I have those days where I feel self-conscience. I'm way too pale, and have a tummy and big arms and some terrible scars. But I'm still beautiful, and I do believe this. I used to be a lot worse off though- I don't think I have to tell most people how brutal middle- and high school can be. But I have come to peace with who I am for the most part. I could never have done this 2 or 3 years ago.

It makes me so sad when I hear people, especially girls, put themselves down and generally shit all over themselves, when I look at them and just think, "...but you're so beautiful."

Anyway, before I start rambling anymore (cause I can- I believe so strongly in the beauty of everyone) I'm just gonna say that if you're interested check out the campaign on facebook here ---> [link] And I was inspired to do this by this here---> [link] Thank you to whoever started this, it really is a wonderful message to be sending.

And please, join the revolution yourselves! Don't be ashamed of who you are, because you are beautiful despite what the media and shit try to tell us!

~And now for a short story~

Writing in the bathroom stalls is an expected installment in almost any highschool I'm sure. You know, the usual 'i <3 krs' 'ur gay' 'y cant people understand me?' 'call this number 4 a good time' 'angie is a slut'. The usual.

But at my school there was something different. When a girl went into one of the bathroom stalls, it was very likely that she would stumble upon one of the ones on which someone had written the words 'you are beautiful'.

There was something about it. Somethign that was lacking all highschool irony or mean-spirited sarcasm. Something honest and personal, like it was written just for you even though you know it wasn't. Something set it apart in that wall of bathroom art.

I don't know.

What I do know is that hardly anyone dared to write over or around them like they did all the other messages. There was almost never any 'no, ur ugly' or 'ur a lez'. I like to think every girl needed that reminder, that bit of light in their world, even as they're slandering their best friend's name all over the walls.

No one ever came forward to take credit for it, even after an article was published in our newspaper about it.

I haven't been back there for a while, but I really do hope they're still there. These messages brightened a crappy day for me more times than I can count, and I have no doubt they did the same for almost every girl who ever read them. So to whoever that was back then, thank you.

Hi there, I'm currently desperately looking for cool artwork such as what is above to be published in the first edition of Brainwash Magazine (www.pozible.com/brainwashproject) and this would be great in the mag. (It is all about body image and the way magazines today make us feel poorly about ourselves.... your work would fit perfectly!!) Please email me if you are interested in having this published in hard copy. Your work would be credited to you and I'd love for you to write a 50 word bio about yourself to include in the magazine. Design work is happening NOW so the sooner you can respond, the better! Please don't reply on this site, please email: Jessica Barlow at thebrainwashproject@gmail.com. I hope to hear from you, kindest, Jessica.

I've thought about writing that in one of the girls' stalls before. I'm going to write them in every gym changing room I use, and then maybe write it in the a bathroom stall or two <3 I know I would have loved to read that on a really crappy day

yeah people r beautiful in all shapes, its really sad tough that this problem is really over looked in guys, when guys has self-esteem or body image issues they can't talk about it because all the organizations for these problems are aimed at girls and if guys talk about it they will be shamed by society and told to "man up" etc. and I think we should help ALL people with these issues because guys do have these problems and they are VERY common. Anyways, I think this is a great idea, just wanted to put this out there.

Oh don't hate your body sweetie. Some of the most beautiful girls I know are overweight. And I mean, look at me, I am certainly no model, but no way in hell does that mean I'm not beautiful. it's wrong how the media and culture try to make beauty realative to thinness the same thing, because that's just not true. Join the revolution and work on loviing every bit of yourself!

Mah, look at me compared to my roommate. Actualy, my sis is the same way, tiny. I don't mind- I know they have just as many body issues as me. Steph thinks she looks like a 12 year old boy, and Sheena (my sister) has always been self-conscience of how tall and thin she is, she thinks she looks awkward. Even though both of them are just beautiful!

insanefastone In reply to Serenityfrogluvr [2009-10-23 23:02:37 +0000 UTC]

Indeed!

You wouldn't believe how often I've been referred to as a 12-year-old boy either.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Serenityfrogluvr In reply to insanefastone [2009-10-23 23:07:06 +0000 UTC]

yep. well you and my roommate both. Even though I'm more on the other side of that fence, I understand completely that it's not just girl's who are a little overweight that feel the pressure to change, and I think it's horrible when people say things like that (I know some of the other girls who did shots like this got some crap about them being skinny so it doesn't really apply to them, which is absolute bull.)

that's why I was so excited to put Steph's up alongside mine. We have such different body types, but we is BOTH beautiful!!! (But there's way better lighting in her's *is jealous of Steph's lamp*)
