Practice alone won't make you a better painter. It's easy to think that if you just do the same thing over and over again you'll eventually get better at it. It's something we've all been taught but it doesn't make it true. That type of thing works with learning to ride a bike or tie your shoes but not with art.

I could never have gotten to where I am today with only practicing. I would have just made many paintings that were the same quality. I needed more knowledge of how to paint.

I read a lot of books and watched a lot of videos and then I took the knowledge I've found and worked with it. I'm still reading books and watching videos to try to get better at art.

The materials are out there to learn how to improve your artwork technically. It's there for anyone to find and use.

I think a better way to think about improving any craft is "Perfect practice makes perfect." instead of "Practice makes perfect."

I don't know if this will help anyone but it's a little information on how I got to where I am in with painting in a very short time.
