Go for it! Just make sure to make the wings lightweight but of a sturdy material since A) they will get heavy after too long of wear and B) ya tend to bang into everything from door frames, hallways, tables, Starscream...
I made mine from gluing and taping together a bunch of those foam kneeding pads used in gardening.
