Something that you might have guessed I enjoy a lot based on the subject of my podcast is watching weird and bad movies from the days of old, but it's really hard to watch most of them without someone there to get a kick out of it with you. That's why I love Hosted movie shows like Svengoolie, Elvira's Movie Macabre, of course, Mystery Science Theatre 3000. Most of my love for bad films and the out-there horror movies were because of shows like these that eased the blow of how bad these movies can be. So I wanted to draw a little tribute to all of the wonderful hosts that take the time to present these bad movies to us all and make us laugh through the pain.

Svengoolie was the first of the hosts that I watched and I loved the show in how it would present the movie and have fun little skits in-between chunks of the movie and lead back into the movie by making the opening line of the next scene the punchline of a joke set up beforehand. It feels like everybody on both sides of the camera are having a blast making the show and you feel it. Svengoolie is also the longest running of the hosted shows, getting it's start in 1970. It's highly charming and I would highly recommend watching it if you can.

Elvira was the latest host that I got into watching, I actually watched a couple of her movies while working on this very picture! She's an absolutely wonderful ball of personality and she is probably the most famous of all of the hosts here. She still has a pretty large social media presence and she's even come out with some hot sauces, of all things. She's still got her looks even today, though in my personal opinion she's even more attractive now than she was in her old show. I've only watched Elvira's Movie Macabre so far and I have to say that it's the skimpiest of the hosted shows, production-wise, but she features some really interesting and obscure films that are definitely worth a watch, provided you're 18 or older. Some of the movies she's featured have a startling amount of nudity and profanity that I was pretty sure wasn't able to be aired in 80's America, but it could have been on a paid subscription network like HBO or something (I have been watching these on Tubi, in case anybody was wondering.) Despite the rather bare host segments, Elvira herself carries the show and is highly enjoyable as a host.

Crow T. Robot is one of the two robot cohosts of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 and is the funniest host in my opinion. Crow usually has the single funniest line in most MST3k movie riffs and is the physically most complex of the two robots, movement wise.

Tom Servo is the other robot cohost and is not only a really fun character to watch, but usually has an absolutely wonderful singing voice, like the guys who voice him could legit pursue a career in music. Funnily enough, Tom Servo's silhouette is completely opaque, despite his head having a transparent globe. Mystery Science Theatre 3000 is my favorite of the bunch, with highly entertaining host segments, a charming low-budget quality, and the hosts stay throughout the movie and joke about the movies they are presenting, you definitely feel like you really get to know the hosts by any episode's end and feel like you would watch just about anything with them and thoroughly enjoy it. The show itself, despite the intro stating that you shouldn't think too hard about the show's details and just enjoy the show, has a surprising amount of plot and reoccurring details that make watching more of the show more rewarding. I highly recommend any iteration of MST3k to anyone.
Also, in case you're wondering where the human host of MST3k is, I decided to omit them, as picking one of the 4 would be very difficult. Besides, Crow and Tom Servo are the faces of MST3k, so I wanted to go with just them.
