Description As I was rewriting Pokemon's Sun and Moon anime for my mew-clone oc, Myun , I had the opportunity to do something different and interesting with Team Rocket, so I took it.

In the Diamond and Pearl episode "Noodles! Roamin' Off!" both Jessie and Meowth quit Team Rocket. They rejoin by the end but I've decided that, while they do come back together, they all quit Team Rocket for good. While figuring out what to do with themselves, they focus on helping "Jessilina" win contests and try a few side hustles, anything canon during the Diamond and Pearl series that wouldn't have to do with Team Rocket directly. This includes "The Treasure is All Mine!" so that James can collect Growlie the Growlithe, even though he canonically leaves it behind.

By the time they leave Sinnoh, James has Mime Jr, Carnevine, and Growlie; and Jessie has Wobbuffet, Seviper, and Yanmega.

While Ash and co travel through Unova and Kalos, with Team Rocket's roles being taken by the native evil team, Jessie, James, and Meowth have their own mess of adventures. Along the way, Mime Jr goes off with the Dance Troop of a Traveling Circus in a pretty standard farewell story; Yanmega leaves with a mate, a la "Bye-Bye, Butterfree"; and Carnevine is traded to a young trainer with a sob story.

James had overheard a heated conversation between the trainer and her parents that hit a little too close to home, and said he wouldn't mind listening to her vent for a bit. The tomboy had left home to become a pokemon trainer rather than the prim and proper little princess her parents wanted her to be but they would constantly send her frilly, girly gifts that were completely impractical for a trainer, like ball gowns and perfume. She would usually either send it back or give it away but this time they send her an entire pokemon! At least it was closer to what a trainer might want, and it's not like it was a bad pokemon, but it was just so... frilly and didn't mesh with her rough and tough team at all. She feared what they might do to the poor thing if she sent it back and couldn't just give it away to any old trainer, but she'd never be able to divorce the pokemon itself from where it came from, which wouldn't be fair to it either. James mentioned that she could always trade it away and the trainer suddenly became fixated on trading it to James, begging and pleading to trade with her until he finally gave in, trading his Carnevine for her Galaran Ponyta. She promptly fled before James could change his mind. He does somewhat regret his choice but Sugar the Ponyta, already named by the trainer's parents, was too sweet to be mad at.

By the time the trio found their way to Alola, James had Growlie and Sugar while Jessie had Wobbuffet and Seviper.

Upon arrival, they found a gold colored Spearow and Jessie immediately caught it, thinking it was shiny, but it turns out that's just what Spearow look like in Alola; "normal" Spearow are red and brown with a rare mutation that would change the red to yellow, but in Alola, the yellow mutation was more dominant, with a few reds and a rare blue once in a while. It wasn't a significant enough variation to be considered a "regional form" like Sugar but it was still more different than what Jessie was used to. Disappointed that it wasn't exactly special, Jessie decided to keep it anyways as she liked it's proud, sassy disposition.

Once there, Jessie and James find themselves in desperate need of cash and manage to get themselves hired by Hobbes as caretakers of his young charge. Her brother had recently left and the mansion felt dreadfully empty; they needed something fresh, new, and exciting to keep the remaining child's spirits up. Hobbes had seen them interacting and decided that the trio were the perfect candidates to liven up the mansion. They jump at the opportunity; babysitting a rich girl seemed like easy money, but when Lusamine recognizes James he has to beg her to not tell his parents where he is. Lusamine counters that she knows she would appreciate if someone told her where her children were but Lillie reminds her that if she tells James' parents they'll probably take him away, with Jessie and Meowth in tow, and she'd grown rather attached to the trio; they were like the cool aunt/uncles she'd never had. Lusamine reluctantly agrees to keep the secret.

While working for Lillie, the trio eventually comes into contact with Ash and shenanigans ensue. Meowth helps Lillie get over her fear of touching pokemon by exposure therapy; he's different enough from the average pokemon that it's easier to forget he is, indeed, a pokemon.

Early on in the show's timeline, Jessie is made aware of Salazzle and becomes obsessed with having one, greedily trading Seviper for a female Salandit with the promise of it evolving one day. It had already been named Amethyst and Jessie liked the idea. Turns out it's common in Alolan culture to nickname pokemon, to foster a unique identity and strengthening the bond between trainer and pokemon, so Jessie names her Spearow "Pyrite", after fools gold as it had fooled her. Wobbuffet and Meowth refused nicknames and Growlie and Sugar already had them. Ash is also introduced to the idea at this time; can't decide how this might effect anything.

At some point, James helps an injured Machop, which then proceeds to follow him, resorting to stealthy stalking when told to leave. Meowth eventually translates that Alolan Machops have some cultural quirks; they desperately want to be caught by a trainer they deem "worthy" and while this is usually assessed during a pokemon battle, this Machop has chosen James for his display of kindness with no thought of reward. It even wears the bandage James had used as a belt, another cultural quirk of emulating those they look up to. Touched, James catches it, naming it Matcha the Machop, and making a black and red apron for it to emulate him.

Somewhere down the line, Jessie "chaperones" a fishing trip and manages to catch a Dratini, colored teal green rather than baby blue; it's the common coloring of Alolan Dratini, just like her gold Spearow. She names it Emerald to fit the semi-precious naming scheme she'd fallen into. James also catches a Fomantis that tried to steal his food on a cloudy day, naming it Ginger to match his own food based naming convention.

By the end of Sun and Moon, when Ash inevitably leaves, James has Growlie the Growlithe, Sugar the Galaran Ponyta, Matcha the Machop, and Ginger the Lurantis; Jessie has her trusty Wobbuffet, Amethyst the Salazzle, Pyrite the Spearow, and Emerald the Dragonair; and Meowth is, of course, his ever independent self.
