Description
This is a view from the Balcic Castle - BulgariaThe Balchic Castle (in Bulgarian Двореца в Балчик, transliterated: Dvoreța v Balcik) located in the Balcic city (Bulgaria) was a residence of Queen Mary of Romania, during the time when the Quadrilateral belonged to Romania.
Built on the Black Sea shore, the castle comprises a botanical garden, a smoker's room, a cellar, a monastery cellar, a water fountain, several residential villas and various other buildings. The castle, nicknamed by Queen Tenha Yuva ("The Lonely Nest" in Turkish) is actually a large villa with white walls and red tiled roofs guarded by a minaret, built according to Queen Maria's plans and tastes, along three terraces. It combines elements of the Ottoman style with that of the Bulgarian houses. The seafront originally formed the lower terrace, with a small cliff, but in the 1950s it was separated by the slabs that dug, through a dike and a new concrete terrace, on which cafes and restaurants operate in the summer. The domain of the castle comprises six houses, one for each child of Queen Mary. Also from her wish was raised the paraclis "Stella Maris", in the Orthodox style, where the queen recoiled. She felt so good in the "Lonely Nest" that the queen left the wish that after her death, her heart would be kept inside the paraclis, this being moved in autumn 1940, after the surrender of the Quadrilateral to Bulgaria, at Bran Castle and after the war at the National History Museum in Bucharest - Romania.
