Here's what I feel happened. Pink wanted to be taken seriously by her Diamond sisters so she ordered Spinel to stay in the garden so she wouldn't be distracted.
Then when the war started she probably thought she would be safer there.

I agree with you on the first part, but personally (and this is just my opinion) from what we've seen in the show, im pretty sure pink diamond is just that bad of a person
Sure she had good intentions with the whole saving earth thing, but she made bad choices as well
Compare pearl and spinel from before the rebellion, pink diamond didnt take pearl that seriously either, had she known spinel had so much fighting spirit in her she wouldve reconsidered, instead, she just saw her as a toy

Because that's basically what she was. What she was made for. She was still a diamond at the time after all. Trying to be like the others.
Sure a lot of things went wrong with Pink. But I like to believe her intentions were pure. If she could I believe she would have went back for her.

if spinel was in the crystal gems, she could’ve used that scythe to get corrupted gems back to normal! Then they could give the gem some of its memories, just enough to get it to non corrupted form!
