A weird idea also spinning around in my head... what if my drow would not live in ancient times, but... let's say... a bit more nearer today's time?
Here he would be some kind of vampire hunter, I guess
(this lovely outfit has two additional items I will add in the next image)

First off, I'd like to say this must have took lots of time! I love how instead of making him live back in Ancient times, or some Fantasy world you mixed him up with our time, today.
The black and white colours really do have a nice touch.
One thing I do notice is that he blends in with the background a bit too much. I had to look really hard at first to see his some of his body, being behind him it is black and his leg, arm and some of his clothing is black.
I don't know if it's just my eyes or if this is how it's suppose to be but the door frame looks a bit tilted, or the hallways its self looks a bit tilted.
Other than that, it's a very wonderful piece- very stunning!

Sorry that it took so long to answer, college is killing me
It had indeed, I have developed this character over a long time, collecting ideas and simulating scenarios of his background story ^_^
I had done that on a non-calibred monitor, sadly. I will try these days maybe to correct it, would be really thankful if you could tell me then whether it is better then
Though that this blending is part of the composition, as drow are shadow beings, with the ability to disappear into them.... but I guess that this will indeed look better if I correct the brightness ^^'
Towards the doorframe: My compositing teacher already gave me some quite angered comments, it is a photo-3D-composition, and I forgot to correct the perspective of the background. So. yeah. I did not find the photoshop source file where the background still is seperated so far, sadly.

Aaaaalso.... ich sehe alles, jedes detail, es ist zwar stellenweise sehr sehr dzunkel, aber ich habe einen sehr guten Monitor... was die meisten leider nicht haben. hat schon mal jemand gemeckert, dass es zu dunkel ist? Persönlich wüprde ich gerne mehr von seinem Gesicht sehen und es ein ganz klein wenig heller machen bzw die schwarzen Stellen im Bild ein ganz klein wenig anleuchten, so dass sie nicht ganz schwarz erscheinen... oder hast du das nachträglich mit Kontrast gemacht? So etwas st aber immer geschmackssache, wie gesagt, ich sehe alles und es IST ja auch eine dunkle Szene.
Sepia? Auf dem ersten BLick nicht... aber es ist ein warmes schwarz-weiss.... das spricht fpr einen leichten Sepia Effekt oder Wärmefilter, ja.

HRMPF
Bei mir - so war es eigentlich gedacht - ist alles gut zu erkennen, und ich hab in Photoshop die komplette Sättigung rausgenommen, um dann anschließend einen Kältefilter drüberzulegen.
Auch wenn ich in PS mit dem Pipettenwerkzeug drübergehe klebt das bei jeder Farbe am linken Rand im Grau/Schwarz-Bereich.....
Ich kapier es nicht. Es hat nur auf meinem Lappie richtig hingehauen, wie es Photoshop meint gemacht zu haben.
Am Institut hats bei einem Tft-Monitor sogar einen Harcore-Sepia-Farbton.... -_-

Bevor ich überhaupt deine Einleitung gelesen habe, dachte ich mir, dass der Drow irgendwie nicht recht zur Zeit passt, da aber nicht nur der Hintergrund, sondern auch die Kleidung des Drows nicht gerade mittelalterlich ist, sondern der Neuzeit angehören, ist das Bild im Ganzen trotz dem sehr stimmig. Aber im ersten Moment war es sehr befremdlich einen Drow in dieser neuzeitlichen Umgebung vorzufinden. Nach genauerem Betrachten des Bildes fand ich die Idee nur noch faszinierend.
Nachdem ich nun deine Einleitung gelesen habe und weiß, dass es von dir durchaus gewollt war, deinen Charakter in die Neuzeit zu versetzen, kann ich nur sagen:

Dachte mir halt, da Drow ja extrem alt werden, was wäre, wenn ein Drow mal nicht immer nur im Pseudomittelalterfanatsyysetting angesiedelt wäre. Neuzeit wäre doch genauso pausibel xD

Ja, das stimmt, den Vampiren spricht man ja in der Fantasy auch zu, bis ins heute überlebt zu haben, warum den Elben und selbstredend gerade den dunklen Vertretern unter ihnen nicht auch?
