Description
This piece started off nothing like it looks now. The paper was not painted over and the back ground was blue-green. It didn't work. I like this much better.
Paper, pastel and acrylic on canvas. 8x8 inches.

I really like the texture and shading on the bird's feathers. It looks almost three-dimensional.

I think this is one of my favourites of what you've done in recent times. The way the lines are set make the crow look kind of mechanical, and its shape and the teal accents add to that somehow.

Ah... I cannot stop staring. That texture is so magnificent! This might honestly be my favourite work I have seen in a very long time. I love how there's still that touch of the blue-green at the top of the crow's head, and how the background has a very feathery feel to itself. Just... really great.

I've never experimented with pastel on canvas, and my goodness does it not yield fantastic results here

The wings are paper. Handmade paper with natural fibers and leaves. Though I have made paper before, I didn't make this. I then eventually painted over the paper creating this effect. The pastel is mostly the dark color on the bird.

It's a process for sure! I did not enjoy it at the time, I was a lot younger. I definitely appreciate handmade paper more since I have some insight into the making of it.

When doing a collage like this it is usually a pretty good idea to have some sort of sketch or outline. I had a loose outline and tweaked it as I went along. The same for the "Yellow Thorn with Key"
