Description
A local coffeehouse/shop has offered wall space for the local artist guild with me being the first to show (they have this great exposed brick wall). I thought it would be fun to make something coffee related.
Acrylics, graphite pencil on illustration board.
5x7 inches

My first second reaction was, "omg he made a 'cute' composition." It is in generalities, but those devious ears and the ominous darkness of the cup out of which the rabbit is ascending... well, it makes for a complicated emotional response. I like that. part of me wants to do the usual "lolbunny" part of me wants to see ... ooohhh... wild animal exiting a dark space... scary...
It is a great dichotomy.

Yes, very much near the danger zone of "cute". I wanted to make something whimsical but not go overboard. The rabbit was originally going to be a mouse but then I thought of how mice and rats are viewed in a restaurant/cafe setting.
Thank you!

whimsical w/out overboard. I think you hit that right on the head.

Such a beautiful painting. It's wonderful that a local coffeehouse has offered wall space to show original artworks. I have seen that before when I visited Seattle some years back, but have never seen it here (I've only seen large chain coffee shops around here, as there very few small businesses left). I am sure this painting will be appreciated greatly by any coffee drinkers who come across it - such a delicate little rabbit; I can even see the fine texture painted in his fur. Now I wonder, did he drink up all that coffee?

There are not many venues locally to show work so I am glad the coffeehouse is doing this.
... And yes, that rabbit drank all that coffee and now cannot take a nap.
