Description Watercolor painting.

Black ballpoint pen, #2 pencil (for shadows), traditional watercolors, and watercolor colored pencils.

The central idea in this painting was to recapture a kitten's (or child's) sense of wonder about the world. Of course, adults are so used to "wonders" like glass, fish, light-bending water, and the great outdoors that I had to tweak reality to get the adult audience to feel the same level of wonder that a child feels when seeing the ordinary world.

Hence, this picture has a handful of impossibilites, ultra-vivid colors, and three tessellations...all designed to reawaken adults' sense of wonder.

Note my initials, "SAB", on the memo pad tucked under the goldfish bowl.

even now Im an adult never let my wonder for the world ends: how a tortilla is been cooking, the movement of the spider's legs, the sky itself...
too much questions yet, even when you grow old...
This picture reminds me one of my books in first grade elemental shool was a book whit a lot of tales

Many thanks, Quaddles-Roost.
This painting is one of my personal favorites, for its mix of surrealism and tessellation.

It's watercolor paint, watercolor colored pencils, #2 / HB pencil, and black ballpoint ink on paper.

Thanks for the compliment, Lefty 'Fro. :joy

re: your SIG: LOL, so the :devwatercolorists should be "watercolourists"? Then you won't need "u".

This deviation has been chosen as a feature of the week
on which is a community project
promoting artists on dA.
It has been found from the word of the week : "GLASS "

Wow! A feature-of-the-week? Thanks so much.
I wish I'd noticed this honor earlier-- you posted 3 days ago. #sigh#. I've been so busy working on a toy-and-home-furnishings project, this month, that DAYS go by before I check in at DeviantArt.

Now I wish I'd hung onto the original-- I gave the original painting to a local camera-shop owner who's been extremely supportive and appreciative.

I'm planning to make a simple line-art version of this for a tessellation coloring book / activity book I'm working on. The art looks best as it is, though, so perhaps it should just be as it is, full-color back-cover art for the book.

it's always fun to play with your picture... i see pencils, paint brush, milk carton, tiny cats, notepad with an S... i know i'm missing something

There's a lot hidden in this picture. The "S", for example, is actually "SA" ("essay", and coincidentally my initials). Also, the goldfish tessellate, as do the milk cartons and cats. In the goldfish bowl, there's a "no fishing" sign. I'm sure you already noticed the water-ripples in the windowpanes, the holes in the table around the paintbrush, and the way one pencil levitates at the left-rear end of the table.

By the way, you might enjoy hunting for the impossibilities in this picture [link] (Fall of the House of Escher).

Wonderful, like an Escheresque illustration for a children's book.

Exactly ! That's *exactly* what I wanted this to be.
