Then my newfound opponent gained strength as he spoke
With a passion on which he was ready to choke,
I could certainly see he was going for broke
And his puritan's purpose was more than a joke;
He beseeched and implored them along the same line
On a mission he clearly considered divine,
Would he lead the duded into his vision so fine
Into walking his path and abandoning mine;
When the Dean of Decorum had finished his say
Half my ticklebuds' faces shows doubt and dismay,
This could not be permitted to carry the day
So I drew myself up and replied right away;

"My good friends," I began, "what the Dean says is true
Inasmuch as he could be a leader for you,
If you all go along as he wants you to do
And put each big bare tootsie back into its shoe;
He can help you return to the neat and the nice
If you follow his guidelines and heed his advice,
Shunning pleasures of which you've all sampled a slice
And found mighty delightful, so please just think twice;"
I regarded each face in the columns and rows
And beheld for myself just how quickly they froze,
As I lifted my barefeet to take up a pose
And each eye was held rapt as I wiggled my toes;

"I recall my arrival, so fine and so fair
And the anticipation I felt in the air,
When I rode into town and you started to stare
At the moment you noticed my barefootin flair;
When you saw that my barefeet made such a fine pair
I think some of you wanted to join me right there,
And the barefootin boys who were getting their share
Of my shoeless delight without worry or care;
You all sensed in a moment of honesty rare
You all hated the shoes that you made yourselves wear,
And one after the other you took up my dare
Until all your hot manfeet were totally bare;
