This is my entry for 's Mini Contest "Animals that begin with J".

Ok, so I realised that a lot of people will be posting photos of Jaguars or Jellyfish. I wanted to find something different. So I spent my last two visits to the Zoo trying to find an animal that began with J. Sure enough, it proved difficult until I discovered this little beauty.

This is a Java Sparrow. As the name suggests these birds are found Java as well as Bali. They are classed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss and hunting in some areas. I really have fallen in love with these birds as they are right little critters. This one perched in a low bush in the tropical house and I really did have to get down on my knees to get this photo. They really are funny.
