  At 4'10, Olivia hated her life. Not only did everyone overlook her at work, but she sometimes felt out of place among her colleagues. Working with the (literal and metaphorical) giants of basketball was a tough task. And any love she had for the sport was extinguished bit by bit by the egos that were big, even for them. To top it all off, the poor girl spent most of her paycheck on various treatments for her condition.

  When she was younger, Olivia would brag about breaking her leg 3 times in one year. Or maybe she broke a finger over Christmas Break. But today it's just a major hospital bill whenever she so much as trips. Her bones were incredibly weak, and some doctors even suggested this could have severely stunted her growth. This made her a prime candidate for a new drug treatment.

  At her last visit to the hospital, Olivia was propositioned with an interesting idea: She tests out a new drug from Grothiss Therapeutics, and they will more than cover her hospital bills. Not many patients who fit their requirements came in, and Olivia seemed like the perfect match. In fact, she would be the first member of their Phase II Trials, and their first human subject.

"I will break my bones less often"?" She inquired.

"If it works. They have only tested it on monkeys, pigs, and rodents so far. But found no adverse effects in the process, only a stronger skeletal system."

"And I'm paid for this?"

"Absolutely."

"Count me in."

It took a few weeks for the drug to set in, but Olivia certainly felt stronger. She still hated her life but had a windfall of cash to spend on some clothes and nice meals. That was when she visited the hospital again for her checkup. It was also where she found out that she was now 5'2, and her growth plates were still open. The doctor profusely apologized, but Olivia dismissed it. Not only were here bones stronger, but she was taller too! This was great!

One year later...

THE FDA REJECTS GROTHISS THERAPEUTIC'S NEW DRUG DUE TO SEVERE ADVERSE EFFECTS ON INITIAL SUBJECTS
  After one year of human testing, Grothiss Stock plummeted when the FDA announced the complete ban on their new drug. Chief Medical Officer David Olson suggested that the drug strengthens bones in fully mature skeletal systems. However, when employed on still-growing subjects, it has a severe and irreversible effect. As the drug encourages rapid bone growth, it can lead to an "overgrowth" of height in adolescents. Luckily for the unnamed subject, her initial height was recorded at 4'10".3, so her rapid growth left her body in a survivable state at 7'10".8. Olson suggests that a taller subject may end up growing until they reach a fatal height. The drug will be immediately and properly disposed of in favor of Grothiss's other projects.

"Thank God." Olivia thought, as she read the paper, "although I bet everyone knows who this 'unnamed subject' is."

  She was now 7'11, and her growth slowed down after a long year of painful growth spurts and outgrowing almost everything around her. She still hated her life. She had to take the public subway system, people gawked at her wherever she went, and she was now listed as the tallest woman in the world. Although towering over all the basketball stars she had to work with and breaking fewer bones did make this a little easier.
