The lure of the countryside has always held a certain dreamlike status to the people of London. Even though the city sunk into the neath it nevertheless is a mark of high status to own a mansion in the swamps south of the city. As such, the absolute elite of society keep making plans for ever grander and grander country estates just out of reach for the lights of London, far enough that noone would be stupid enough to actually attempt to visit them. Large expeditions are sent into the mists in order to construct these palaces and few return to tell of the splendid arches, the fantastic gardens and the exquisite fountains.

The actual cost of these expedition is often more important than the actual constructions. It is more common than not that material and men are lead into the darkest parts of the swamp just to be never seen again. Meanwhile the elite that arranged for it all keep telling his influential friends of the large palace they had built just a short distance from London while gulping down yet another glass of wine.

Never will anyone see that palace, never will anyone ask about the people that went to construct it, why they didn't return. Never will anyone in London doubts its existence. For doubting the result would put all that effort and money, all those lives into question, and we cant have that.
