Description Well, due to a lack of working television to play my Xbox on, I thought some work on my digital coloring might be a nice change of pace from what I had been doing. Who knows, tomorrow I might even work on a couple of con badges. FWA is coming up, after all.

Anyway, added shading and lighting to the previously submitted colored image.

I like the idea of the stripes and body markings. But for some reason I do prefer a some what humaniod face and Hair. Still damn good work though.

Great coloring, and the hands and feet really come out.

Facial...well everyone imagines the quarians different now, I get reminded of Jaws for some reason when I look at your pic

This is my favourite quarian concept I have yet seen. It actually looks alien.

But you got the recurve on her shins all wrong.

very clever, suggest to bioware perhaps?

I would write a critique but i'm not a premium member. As for the skin color, I don't think it matters since they never actually show skin on any Quarians. The body shape and curves are spot on. You ability for anatomy is great. The blets you drew seem flat, but the shading you have done with the buckles is excellent. Now here is a nitpick you can discard but I beleive you made the fingers to thick. Maybe its just me. Over all your art is excellent. Definatly superior to mine.

Every single idiot i've talked to Keeps pecking at me saying "Oh Quarians have Pale flesh" They arent pale especially if you look Extremely close to Tali's mask / face you can see she's a blueish color.. and i kept telling them The blood/Plasma color determines the flesh color but not always there are also factors of skin pigment - based on homeworld and all that other fancy stuff. But then again the people who argued with me also thought Sangheili females had Boobs and Hair and flat faces.
And some of them were 20-21 years old and some were 15-18 so it got kinda annoying.
Tali is not a human she's an alien hehe
and i believe your concept is one of the best designs Me thinks it would be a good one in Mass effect ~ Its interesting to look at too.
Then agian i havent done much in teh same of art for a while and im typing this at 9:58 AM when im extremely tired.
But yeah Nice work

BEST. PICTURE. EVER. *Wallpapers*

I can't find a thing wrong with it. Most people make the Quarians out to be bald humans but I like how you've used a different blue hue and given such markings to them!

I wonder if they know what they look like or perhaps they'll take your lead on it?

Very possible, they are supposed to be very humanish underneath those suits, but who knows?

I love this concept. Don't ask me why but she reminds me of a cobra (I think it's the neck). I think this is the best idea of what a quarian looks like. Human-like but alien at the same time, beautiful, and has no hair (as the devs have mentioned before).

Well, we won't know for sure until the next game installment I think. However, it's very nice for you to say such things! I like to think that I have a shrewd idea on how they might be presented.

The only one? Why, that's a very flattering thing to say! I hope I continue to impress in the future.

This anatomy looks logical and well done, althoug we only could speculate about "hair" and muscles, but the neck is kinda interresting yet strange to see then neck tendon linked to the back of the skull...

way to go, good job!

severuscoil In reply to Margenal [2010-03-15 06:11:21 +0000 UTC]

I have to admit I spent a lot of time thinking about quarians with hair. I eventually decided that since these suits are not often removed, to have hair underneath might be very uncomfortable for the wearers. I did decide that their skin pigmentations have become very pale due to their lack of exposure to light.

A very interesting take on the quarians I must say. Artwise, the proportions and lighting is very consistent and get across your concept very well.

If you are truly looking for a critique, my only questions are more about the anatomy than anything, and I suppose those are questions more suited for BioWare. I wonder what it is Tali has beneath her hood that changes from ME1 into ME2? Did she grow hair or tentacles with age? The other has to do with her hips. Here you've depicted her with very human-like sculptured hindquarters, but even as a female I notices the more rounded hip arches in Tali's form. Just a thought.

I do love this piece though, and am faving it. There have been a lot of "Tali-unsuited" guesswork art out there since ME2, and I believe this is my favorite version of her. Well done.

I accept all of the criticism. I must admit that I was working from the early Mass Effect 1 concept art when originally drawing up this piece, and am well aware that the leg structure is not entirely accurate to Mass Effect 2's quarians. I plan to do my best to correct those mistakes in future works on Tali, of which I hope to be able to do. The quarians are second only to the turians in my favorite species to draw.

We'll never know.. *sob* not until ME3, at least. But I think from looking closely through the faceplate that Tali's nose might be straighter.

Nemonus [2010-03-13 05:53:34 +0000 UTC]

I actually like the face--and I'm not a big fan of most quarian speculations. The thick sinews in the neck give a unique profile that harkens to asari or Twi'lek headtails without replicating them like to many alien designs do. Beautiful coloring too.

think they'll ever show us who what they really look like?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

severuscoil In reply to terrordark [2010-03-11 15:19:04 +0000 UTC]

Yes. Officially stated that the Mass Effect universe will continue even beyond Mass Effect 3. While they haven't given any more information than that, I'm pulling for Mass Effect Online, the first quality MMOTFPSRPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Tactical First Person Shooter Role-Playing Game)to really give BioWare the opportunity the chance to expand that universe further through time, and give EA yet another money-printing machine.

terrordark In reply to severuscoil [2010-03-11 23:06:11 +0000 UTC]

that would be cool, but I'm not really a fan of MM stuff the story is never as deep and a single player based game.
