Description
Title is still pending. The Newgrounds Preloader is only there as a placeholder. It'll be changed to a custom one when the animation is done. The Newgrounds Intro is free to use and is there because I plan to post it on NG when it's complete. I'll also be adding a DA one for the DA version and my own custom intro (a la The BackAlleys).Well, after losing the .fla file for this animation, I had to start from a very old version so this is as far as I've gotten since then. I just thought I'd share because I've been asked quite a few times about how far along I am.
I hope I haven't disappointed anyone.
For now, comments and crits are greatly appreciated as usual. Excuse the red sketch at the end. I do that to map out the scene before I go in and actually make it look remotely acceptable. xD;
Tools Used: Flash CS3, Particle Component by Sham Bahngal and Adam Phillips, Flash vCam

Am I the only one it gets stuck at shortly after it shows the boy reading a book under the tree?
It looks amazing anyhow, I just get an abrupt pause where it kinda just... stays.
No music, the little bugs still flutter, but it stops. o.o
Looks awesome anyhow

no, that's how it's supposed to be. It's just a short preview and that was all I had done at the time of posting so I just stopped it there.
Thanks

Incredibly impressive. I've watched it a couple of times and I can't shake off the soft, ethereal feeling it sends me. It's something so sweet that it makes me feel wistful.
I have no idea how to animate things (the most I can do is make a ball bounce in Flash OTL) so this level of animation really impresses me (not to mention it's very good regardless).
I love the music. The music really sets the mood and the soft piano really draws me in. You also have a gift with picking great mood colors, the light orange and yellow hues really makes it feel like Paradise.
Not to mention the actual drawings themselves, they are amazing! The tree is very original and the style is cute. The lines are clean-cut and match your colors perfectly. I also like how you introduced a flying fish (I think?) at the beginning, it was a great technique. The glitters also add to the already heavenly mood.
The animation itself is very smooth and peaceful, you make good transitions. Keep it up, animation is difficult work and you've done so well. I really love this and I hope to see the completed version of this.

Wow, that's really impressive. That had a really nice ability to pull you in. The music sounded whistflufl and amazing against the colors and feel of space in the movie. I can't wait to see where you go with this; you've peaked my interest

Woah, got linked here from the VAC, and I must say It's an outstanding job so far, hard to give critique on it though.
Overall, I think that the way it is introduced automatically 'wows' the viewer through the detail, blending of colors and that impressive frame by frame work on the snake-ish creature.
Next we have those blurred clouds that give it a blended feel and a hazy touch.. is that just the blur effect? I'm impressed that it doesn't lag at all. Then you introduce the first character, looks good so far, I like how you blend the character with the background through your palette, seems like it was carefully chosen, it looks a bit more 'sepia-toned' than anime and having the similar color lines definitely helps with the blending and giving it a feeling of harmony.
I also like the amount of detail that you have for your backgrounds, almost as good as Adam Phillips', if you were aiming for that you got very close, just missing the excessive gradients he uses to achieve his tones. I also like how you cast a shadow for each element in the background, that's a small detail, but that gives realism to your work.
I can't clearly judge the animation part that thorough yet, since most of it is just V-cam and the fbf work on the creature at the beginning but so far it looks great.
I'm immediately adding this to favs, good job there, can't wait to see the finished product, good luck and keep it up.
Also, since different artists do different things and I'm learning flash on my own, I must ask, how many layers do you get per scene? And how many of your elements there are graphics/movie clips?

Your lacking on the prospective part on your critique sir. I find that the prospective from the first segment to the second segment of the scene effects my judgment greatly on how the whole movie is going to look. Take a look at the tree in the first and second scene... It becomes 70% narrower in the last scene. Giving the first impression on these scenes, the tree is important.
Agreed?
Everything else is great!

Wow, awesome comment. Thanks for taking the time to type all that, I appreciate it.
And actually, the clouds you see there is just a bitmap image. I actually did have a lagging problem at first, because I was trying to use blur for the clouds, but then I decided to just screencap it and take it to photoshop. Then I just did the blurring there and added some glowing effects to enhance it a bit and imported it back into flash.
And yup, Adam Phillips is one of my biggest inspirations for animation, along with *gueuzav and *tchokun from the Ankama Team. Their flash artwork and backgrounds are breathtaking. I've been trying to use more gradients because that seems to be a common thing among all of them and it seems to add a lot of depth. But I'm really surprised you caught the shadow thing. I think you're the first so far.
As for layers and stuff, I actually don't use scenes too much because I lose track of which is which. Plus, people keep telling me "omg noes! scenes are bad dont use them!" so even though I have NO idea why they're so "bad", I tend not to use them out of habit. With layers though, I actually pretty much keep the same amount of layers throughout an entire film. I label them based on their position in relation to the camera or the audience's point of view. So top layer would be actions, then music and/or sound, then v-cam, then black bars, then I have Foreground 1, 2, 3 and sometimes 4. Then Background 1, 2, 3, etc. and sometimes I'll have a "Far Background" for things in the distance. Then the bottom layer is always "Background Base Gradient" because that's the sky. So really, I only end up with about 20 or so layers throughout the entire thing which, with all the details I add in, is not very much. That doesn't include the layers inside of movie clips though.
So yah, every background is its own movie clip. The tree island is a movie clip, the clouds in the front, the clouds in the back are a graphic (from photoshop) and the towers in the distance are a movie clip, etc. I basically just do that because I tend to tween the backgrounds a lot. In fact, now that I think about it... pretty much everything is a movie clip unless its being animated only once, so I can do it on the main timeline. I don't think I'm doing any of this the best way, but it works for me. Hope that helps.
Thanks again for commenting.

Looks very cool.
But, that boy looks like he's a part of the background, and not a character who's about to move.

Thanks. Isn't that a good thing though? xD I try to match things well so they don't stick out. I hate it when I watch cartoons and you can tell when something is about to move or be picked up are blown up or something because it's a completely different shade and palette or something.
