Description While I'm watching (listening) to the 12 Hours of Sebring on Speed, and working on Levelord's comic page (!), here's a sketch produced by those late-night
coffee shop / car guy bull sessions, basically my idea on how to take a stock Neon and with some rework (!!), you get this...

Neon (c) Daimler Chrysler

The rest belongs to me, wheee!!!

I'd buy a neon if it looked like that

Also, reminds me of Spy Hunter

Yes and Yes! It also could share the V10 used in the 1994 Dodge Viper RT-10. Lamborghini (owned by Chrysler at the time) developed the aluminum block for it.

If I get rich, I'm buying a car like that one in black, or a viper, or both. GOD is that a great sketch, you really drew that??? I'd almost say you stole the original drawing that was made to that car, that's how great I think it is

this is pretty cool... and it makes me giggle just a little (because it's a neon). Nice work though.

ohh i definately see the neon styling cues in there but you've certainly tweaked it to a much sleeker design

SFToon In reply to ryuujin2015 [2006-03-19 20:42:08 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, as you mentioned, I tried to get in at least some of the major styling cues.

Why did I do this..? I have absolutely no idea

Thanks, cars are difficult due to perspective BUT there are some great books available on how to get started, may I suggest "How To Draw Cars Like A Professional", I'm pretty sure it's available at Amazon...

oooh- very cool. Very LeMans-ish- would look great in Nitro Yellow Green In a way it reminds me the slightest bit of the XJ220-

I like how you've integrated the grille, front bumper and taillights onto your prototype body too- a nice clean look that a lot of designs seem to lack these days.

I knew you'd like it, I basically took the Neon and squashed it to the same generic profile that you need for mid-engine cars. The big step was to move the cab forward, section it in the middle and expand outwards and accentuate the rear hips past the C pillar. The greenhouse is de rigeur for supercars these days, examples are the Volkswagen W12, the Mercedes CLK-GTR (as Rich mentioned). The doors fold up similiar to the Mercedes...

For production, I was supposing you could take the FWD drivetrain from a stock Neon and drop it into the middle, then go to town "tuning" it up.

This is what happens when you have too many X-Large Tim Horton's coffees

If I ever get a Neon model car kit, I may butcher it up and see what I get... Would be cool to do for Chryslers at Carlisle.

CarbonF In reply to SFToon [2006-03-19 10:14:34 +0000 UTC]

that sounds fun- Do they make neon kits? I know exactly what you mean about the profile thing- there is a reason a lot of supercars have a similar profile, I wasn't going to say anything about that, knoowing what you mean about proportions- but I meant it as a compliment anyway. 'cab forward', heh, I like how you can still see the neon shape in the front fenders and the rear lip spoiler.

I don't know, I'll have to ask some of my Mopar guys to come up with one, I was thinking of using one of those dealer promo 1/24th cars they make to celebrate the launch of a new car.

I think I was aiming at dimensions similiar to the Lotus Exige, small, compact, very quick, and agile.

I'll have to park this after my GT-40, followed by my Tatra MTX (now there's a rare, obscure exotic)

CarbonF In reply to SFToon [2006-03-19 20:52:48 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah- I always forget about those- now that you mention Lotus size I'm getting a lot better idea of what you're talking about. just saw one of those today actually, and a Ferrari 430, spring must have sprung! (or there's a car meet I don't know about)

Tatra? like the big rear engined V8 sedans?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SFToon In reply to CarbonF [2006-03-20 03:24:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but google the MTX Tatra and let me know what you think. I have a very interesting story that I think you'll like...

If Dodge ever does a Daytona Prototype....

Nice draftwork!

Stupid Speed Channel's just about ready to break away for "a look at the technical side of NASCAR"... There's more technological evolution since 1970 on the Ferrari 430s in this race than the whole damn Cup field! *bangs head against keyboard*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SFToon In reply to Teryaki [2006-03-19 06:22:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know but the NASCAR funding is fueling Speed Channel's other programming 'cause F1 ain't cutting it...lol

Very excited to see Audi win with their R10 diesel sport prototype, I think it's a new era for racing. In my opinion, Audi is a train, you get on, it goes where
you want it to, and you get to your destination...

Glad to see the Porsche Spyders out now, too bad about the DNFs due to mechanical difficulties, ah, that's racing

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Teryaki In reply to SFToon [2006-03-19 07:12:58 +0000 UTC]

Porsche DNFing... That's just wrong on so many levels.

Yeah, I know, you could have a show about Michael Waltrip cleaning the gutters on this house, and it'd get better ratings than all the non-NASCAR races on Speed.... Still doesn't make it right.
