Description Full Name: Overwatch Standard Issue AR-2 Pulse Rifle (OSIPR)
Type: Assault Rifle
Game of Origin: ====>Half-Life 2<====

Throw away your stereotypical future weapons such as Star Wars' unrealistic laser blasters or Starship Troopers' heavy cartridge-spilling projectile weapons and say hello to the sexy weapon design concept of the Combine Overwatch forces.

The Overwatch Standard Issue Pulse Rifle (OSIPR), often referred to simply as the Pulse Rifle, is a weapon manufactured by the Combine Empire, derived from modern human assault rifles for use by the Transhuman Arm of the Overwatch. For added control, similar to assault rifles it descends from, it is equipped with a pistol grip.

The rifle is manufactured from the same alloy most Combine technology is produced from, which guarantees durability and reliability in the field. The design is derived from modern human assault rifles, however, due to it's different working mechanism, it varies significantly. The forward part of the weapon contains all the working mechanisms of the rifle - the magazine feed, the firing pin for the energy plugs, the energy barrel, the energy core launcher and it's firing mechanism.

(Unlike conventional weapons which have their firing mechanisms on the inside, the Pulse Rifle has its firing pin outside the body)

AMMO - While conventional weapons use the kinetic energy of a projectile to damage the target, the AR-2 utilizes the power of dark energy plasma which can burn and incarcerate organic material. This plasma is stored inside compact "energy plugs" which themselves are stored in special magazines.

FIRING ACTION - By pulling the trigger, the firing pin hits the detonator of the energy plug to release the dark energy plasma stored inside. Under normal conditions, this plasma would burst outward in all directions. but when it happens within the energy barrel, the energy is channeled and directed towards the unfortunate target. Each plug stores enough dark energy plasma for 30 pulses.

RELOADING - the user presses a button and the spent plug is unlocked, released, and dropped to the ground. Mechanical arms built into the magazine automatically manipulate the next plug into position and the firing pin gently pushes it into the energy barrel. The plug is locked in place by sets of arms in the barrel. This process takes 2 seconds.

SECONDARY FIRE - The Pulse Rifle can also fire dark energy "plasma cores". These cores ricochet off of inorganic material but would instantly incinerate living organisms. The launcher for these cores is mounted directly under the barrel and can hold up to 3 cores at once.

ADDITIONAL INFO - The magazine has a built-in mechanism which frees the user from manually reloading the weapon. It also incorporates a metal shield which protects the user's vulnerable trigger arm. In fact, the whole magazine itself is designed also as a protective shield.

CONCLUSION - The rifle is fully automatic, and posseses a very high rate of fire, capable of discharging the whole energy plug in seconds. The lack of bullet casings to eject and the simplicity of design gives the weapon a very reliable fire mode. It's the prefered weapon of the Combine Overwatch Soldiers and Overwatch Elites.

Is that really a shield? Because if it is, it's utterly completely useless as far as I seen its performance with Overwatch soldiers.

I think you mean incinerate instead of incarcerate.

The model is fantastic.

you would have to remove the Dark Energy Core Launcher to reduce to size

That's not a shield, it's the magazine.
And I really hope you just got "Plasma" from an incorrect source, because it's just plain Dark energy.

No, it is plasma, you're wrong.

It's actually dark energy.

No, its dark energy plasma.

Dark energy is more efficient than plasma though.

Well, you can't really call it 'plain' dark energy. It does contain plasma due to its ability to burn its targets. Plus it really is a shield, the magazine brings up the plugs.

Nope, dark energy and plasma are both different, dark energy disintegrates.

Wow, can't believe I've never stumbled across this beauty before. You did a very good job there mate, and if I may say, you've improved uppon every single detail of the original design. Way better than the official game prop. Planning to release it as a mod?

this is really well developed and the factual info helps to.
ever since i played hl2 i had been looking in to ways to create an actual prototype.

how the energy would be stored in the plugs.
and how the firing hammer would function.
thanks a bunch

and it was to scale to.

when looking at the pictures labels, it almost reminded me of a shock rifle from Unreal Tournament.
P.S. looks deadly! Also from the discription below, how much energy would this thing take up NOW?
As in, 2008 now?
