Description Yesterday I was talking to Daemoria about the Data Zones -more precisely, he was asking about them-, and indeed I noticed that, aside of mentioning them one or two times, I hadn't written -or actually draw them, since some 15 years or so-

So after talking to Daemoria, I decided to try to draw the old concept...

a flying giant space cube, surrounded by 14 perfectly round objects. From that, tried to change it a bit... and then, this morning, I was surprised to see why Daemoria was asking...

he was doing some WAAAY better designs than this space cube!!

DATA ZONE

The "Data Zones" -a code name given by Bazikstan when they first explored them and their use, that later got stuck- are mysterious megastructures, bridging the stars of the Nebula of Ots: these technological marvels allowed the flame of civilization to spread across the Nebula of Ots.

For long, the people of Aiers believed the Data Zone -which was known as Daemos- was other planet: however, using telescopes at the 2888 it was osbserved the form of Daemos wasn't like any other obvserved planet, being instead a square. After much discussion that was generated in the moment of it's discovery, along with the discovery of two other aiers-type planets in the star system of Aiers will later be accepted as normal, rather than something exceptional.

After the Aierian peoples reached space (first space probe from Bazisktan, 3250 a.a.H), the first interest would be to reach the five moons of Aiers, and afterwards, the close Aiers-type worlds. First attempts to study the Data Zone -by the Baziks, who gave it's code name- resulted in lossing contact with space probes, and it wouldn't be until the decade of the 3280s that Guaderia will begin some more serious attempts to understand the Data Zones and how they worked: the lack of results and permanent lost of contact of space probes send to study the object failed time after time.

It won't be until the Stornkold Expedition reached the closer star system to Aiers -the Ableen Star System-, where they discovered a second Data Zone -and one of the lost guaderian probes- that will be suggested them to be a sort of jump gate.

Using trial and error, the Stornkold Expedition discovered the use of the Data Zone at the 3295 a.a.H: using trial and error, they would be able to use the Data Zone of Ableen to return to the Data Zone of Aiers.

Since then, Data Zones would be used to explore the Nebula of Ots, and later, to colonize it.

While their origin and antiquity is discussed -some suggesting them to be Sky Age human creations, while others say instead it's earlier creation from an alien race of world-builders-, there where 30 Data Zones along the Nebula of Ots -of these, two where destroyed: the one in the Aiers Star System, by humans, and one unknown in an unknown location.

The Data Zones are Jump Gates, more advanced than any other technology devised by the current Aierian and Otsarian peoples for faster than light travel: the Data Zones are connected with each other, and this allowed for a quick expansion of humankind once they left the Cradleworld Aiers.

It's supposed, the same creators of the Data Zones aiersformed planets, as in each star system there was at least one or more planets with the characteristics of Aiers: because of this, the initial expansion of humankind find several worlds that didn't needed the extense, costly and long process of Aiersformation.

The destruction of the Data Zone of Aiers by Gofondria at the 3335 a.a.H (to cut the fleet of Stornkold from blockading Aiers, to savage Stornkoldio metal and to study them) will cut Aiers from the Data Zone system: without these Jump Gates, won't return an expedition from the cut-off Otsarian colonies to Aiers until the 3450, after 120 years of losing contact

Use
How they actually work is unknown to the humans of Ots -and the attempt to study it, dismounting the satellites, resulted in the destruction of the Data Zone-, but after trial and error, it was discovered the use:

each Data Zone have 14 satellites, and depend of the coordinates of aproximation of the spaceships toΒ  which Data Zone they will jump once they cross beyond the Satellites, in direction to the Data Zone.

to use them, the spaceships had to get closer to the Data Zone using as guide the

Location of Data Zones

Not only the Aierian humans expanded into the Nebula of Ots using the Data Zones, but some otsarian alien races did the same.
Controlling access to a Data Zone meant an access to the quickest, cheapest avaible space travel form -and the trade routes-: the largest, most populous and prosperous human colonies will be in the Star Systems with Data Zones.

I am going to keep my comments on this to myself, at least until I can converse with you about the secret of UTI tech, at length.
