Description
Was discussing with the Anonymous creator of Mantis, about a bit of her past... and while we will keep her past secret, there's one of the things about Mantis: she uses augs -illegal ones, and some quite advanced-.While she doesn't have an eye, her eyepatch is more than that!
-this is mostly a joke as well, and Filthy Casuals is an internet meme: don't be offended! I love when people discover and randomly see my drawings!
As well, some of the "tech uses" of Mantis augs may need some additional thinking!

Mantis would not stand a chance against some good ol' Ambercoast aFras!
Because is poor into Ambercoast, so cannot into of sub-dermal tracker implant. Also, skimpy battlesuit is actually made of extra itchy potato sack. Such is life in Ambercoast.
And is cold, as always.

This is a feature from factory, and since as you said, there aren't cloning factories of corporations in amberscoast, despise of later Cold and sadness, they would still have it

The hypocrite Ambercoast oligarchs could purchase some cheap aFras for Ambercoast re-population program... but, in order to save cash on skimpy sexy uniforms, they would have the clone uniforms made from this: static6.depositphotos.com/1000β¦
Is cheap, but of itch, too. Β

Standard aFras and shiks come with their uniforms and a couple of spares... I'm guessing they are buying bootlegs instead then : U
Cheap, bootlegs!

Bootlegs, and, to spare some extra coin on fancy standard uniforms, they take thrift store/Ambercoast civilian surplus store (basically, clothes taken off dead people, then mended, washed and sold for a cheaper price) offers.

it's weird thought they to spare in such small things... even bootleg copies of clones are still not that cheap!

Or... the oligarchs could simply send in some agents to round up all the prettiest women in Ambercoast, give them potato sack cloth 'armor' and showcase them of 'how is of progressive and very good well living in Ambercoast, because it can into development'. Not in Polenderia, though - there such agents would feel the wrath of Iva's Spetsialny Otrjad Kontra Organyzowanny Przestupnosty (SOKOP for short - the Special Unit Against Organized Crime). If such agents are lucky, they might even live - behind the bars for the rest of their lives; if they're not, well... Let's just say that Iva's regime makes sure to erase such individuals from society (not 'liquidate', not 'remove', but 'erase', as in not even the slightest trace of the felon remains).

Shabazik In reply to Kiborg-Graph [2017-07-25 12:55:35 +0000 UTC]
that too seems counter-productive. They rounded up and stole the prettiest women in Ambercoats -which in it's own have a value, not small-, to give them unnatractive clothes?
I mean, as far I understand, they like luxury for themselves. They care nothing for others. But these unfortunate woman are to be THEIR eye candy: these "sexy uniforms" are for "their" sake...
then why to give them potato sacks?
Give that to the workers that doesn't ruin the landscape of luxury of the oligarchs! XD

It's all because of them dirty Latonijan and Egownian peasants; always stirring up uproars because they are fed up with the mistreatment they receive from their governments on daily basis, causing the resources of the lands dwindle by the minute even though there aren't much resources in Latonija and Egownia to begin with, , refusing to do their duty and die in foreign meat-grinder conflicts to make the oligarch-ruled lands appear concerned about the safety on global scale like normal people, always wanting to live like in the decadent, clone-filled developed countries instead of enjoying their slow death via malnutrition and overwork... Damn those peasants, it is all their fault the poor oligarchsbut in an emotional sense, since they are filthy rich in the economical sense cannot enjoy a life in luxury!

I admit to being a Filthy Casual, (I keep telling myself I'll read more of your stories someday, but I never know where to begin) but when I do read your writing I'm always really impressed by how much thought you put into your world-building. This is no exception, you could have just hand-waved the eyepatch's enemy-detecting function by saying it scans for "life signs" or something like that, but connecting it to the aFra's tracking implants puts it in context with the rest of the setting. Very cool!
That poor pigtailed aFra though, I just want to give her a big hug! (Although treatment for her arm should probably come before hugging.)

Shabazik In reply to KindlyCruel [2017-03-27 00:46:56 +0000 UTC]
Well, really it depends: while most stories are related with each other, normally you can follow the links in the same pics to the beginning of each story -when is a secuence-, and often I have the care to explain concepts of aiers and such in each story, which may sound a bit repetitive, but it means you can read them in their own!

I love how you can do doll-like chibi figures with huge, round heads that still look like who they are supposed to be!
There's the saying that 'If your not cheating, your not trying!'.Β That's especially true in warfare and shootouts.Β The great killers in war learned or developed the techniques for minimizing their danger while maximizing the weaknesses of their opponents.Β Shooting from behind or from where one can't be readily seen is what these folks aspire to be able to do!Β Be they snipers or fighter pilots, or any special ops soldier, or forward infantrymen for that matter..Β And guys on the line wish they could find themselves such opportunities and fear being on the wrong end of such an engagement.Β
Being the best of the best means being disciplined and ruthless.Β It also comes from having the best equipment and tactics in using it.
While whether Mantis is actually a genetically engineeredΒ 'super' or not is unknown, she is, in essence, a cyber augmented fighter at the very least.Β She would seem to target poor aFras not out of some grudge, but because they have a HUGE disadvantage in that each one is electronically tagged!
We've seen that a team of Mantis clones wasn't very successful at getting their prime either.
But Mantis might have to worry about aFras with changed tech, or her own cyber devices getting tracked or hacked?
π: 0 β©: 1
Shabazik In reply to larqven [2017-03-27 00:45:09 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Larqven!!
That's very true as well!
Indeed, while Mantis can fight against non-aFras enemies, having such and adventage against them, makes her to prefeer contracts against them! but indeed, techn may change, and her own augs may come to be tracked or haked sometime!

I remember a comic where a girl using a cyber suit had been a superhero for a few years but had few funds or time to keep her suit upgraded.Β In a few years some of the suit's tech had gone from cutting edge to 'old'.Β It was illustrative of one of the perils of working alone.
