"You shall not pass"

"What?!"

"You don't had any kind of order to return to Negeémiliel"

"DU'H! Of course not!!
I'm in the middle of a persecution of a rogue Drow!
Hot Pursuit! Is obvious I wasn't able to spend time getting an order!

Now leave me pass, you DWARF!!"

"I'm sorry Ma'am, but there exist strict laws about troopers entering the city without specific orders"

The Captain was becoming more and more angry.

After one too many coup d'etat made by returning generals and their forces in the city after a campaign, it become a law that it was necesary express orders to enter with troops asigned for non-metropolitan duties into the drow City State of Negeémiliel...

She understand the case for great and charismatic generals and victorious conquerors, who can raise as well the popular support and endanger all the social order making a dictatorship...

But clearly, such a law wasn't mean for a small patrol of less than twenty acolytes of Negeé, hunting down a dangerous rogue drow spellthief who make contacts with Orc bandits...

"Come on!" she said impatient. "Our prey will disapear in the city if you stop us any longer here!!"

"No without orders" answered the sargent of arms guarding the entrance.

The Captain sighted. From the over 80 doors to Negeémiliel, she HAD to pick JUST the one guarded by a bone-head sargent...

What was her problem?

She looked had the sargent of arms who was blocking is past, and saw some family insignias.

"crap" she thinked. She recogniced that family crest. She had an acolyte of that family, not to long ago:

...One who disapeared in strange circunstances, and their desaparition was something that disapointed their families, who blamed her.

She need to get that damn rogue drow agent that is trying to destroy her! So, the Captain said:

"You know, I HAD orders"

"Show them to me"

"I can't, they are secret orders"

"Ah! I don't think so. You cannot pass then"

"You don't believe me?" said the Captain "they are mean for the General Darh'arak, you damned DWARF."

"I can't leave you pass with such a poor excuse, you excuse of HIGH ELF"

"Ah! That's why I had this here!"

The Captain ordered with a hand gesture to one of his acolytes to come out from the shadows, way from the lights of the city.

"She is Laeh'le Darh'Arak, priestess and daughter of the general. Can I pass now?"

The Sargent of arms doubted for a moment...

she didn't want problems with a General, meddling with her personal business, but she didn't wanted to loss presence...

"Well... YOU can pass and the daughter of the General...
but I will make you be escorted to the house of the General Darh'arak: AND your acolytes must stay there".

The Captain sighted... it wasn't good enough, but was something.

"Very well DWARF, but I will make you pay for this LATTER.
Now let's go and end this quick, before we lost completely the trace of our prey."

The Captain and Laeh'le where escorted then into the underworld city of Negeémiliel, meanwhile the guards of the gate began to play dice and gamble with the soldiers of the Captain, who where waiting outside the city, happy of their repentine moment to rest after the hunt across the mines and caves of the underworld of Kazrrad...

Ivoyn is part of the 'petite, heavy stocking suspenders' clan? This rich clan of drows comes standard equipped with breastplates which is very good and don't need to remove armor to...relieve themselves! XD Despite the surprisingly effective armor of this clan--a curious and fully exploitable weakness is known for allowing bad abdominal, embarrassing buttock and hip injuries in battle; sadly, this often leads to death from toxic shock!

Seriously, this 'no-nonsense' sergeant looks a lot like her relative Ivoyn -- but is so much mentally tougher! Is she decades or centuries older and more experienced!

Aha!

Here it is the promised MS Paint explaination how their armors work:

XD

Armor is not a familiar thing -the Negeémi drow aren't much of clans, in difference to other drow civilizations-...

... thought, they had the tendence to buy the armors (ceremonial and battle ones) from the same armory, owned by some distant cousins (wich have as trademark that ceremonial armor design, and are one of the "top" armor makers).

:3

(This is their ceremonial armor, not the combat one... so they are as prone to these wounds as any other drow in ceremonial attire!)

I get the idea of how you reacted in the "fantasy self meme".

It should be rather insulting for a drow being called dwarf!

andybru In reply to Shabazik [2010-10-31 08:14:24 +0000 UTC]

It can not. And now she has to make conclusions, and substituting in the future. General depends on a career, and hence from Laeh'le too.

larqven [2010-10-30 09:09:36 +0000 UTC]

Oh! We're going to see the general! Love the 'Dwarf' and 'High Elf' insults! Fortunately the captain took Laeh'le along with her -- although it makes sense -- get some positive identification of the imposter when and if they catch her. Dangerous time for the captain; she's just won a victory where orc and goblin bandits were eliminated, but she's bringing her evidence of the 'plot' to the general! Best hope that the general is in a good mood -- since the seeming plot seems to hover over the captain; it isn't impossible that the general might consider it a 'personal problem' of the captain's that has dragged in the general's daughter. The victory was fine and all, and the plot may seem very real to the captain, but the general might also consider this a 'manufactured' crisis and 'showboating' by the captain to be forgiven?

Even so; the word of Laeh'le is a powerful voice in the captain's favor. Her reputation for honesty and duty will also make it seem unlikely that Laeh'le will lie to her mother for the benefit of the captain. Very good indeed that the captain brought Laeh'le with her!

Ohhh who is she related to I wonder...? Iovyn? Milvais? Quilintha? It's so hard to tell! So it appears the family must be searching for them then... considering all things. Can't wait to see what else happens from here, I'm also tempted to write something for May's next moment in the Textile workshop, but it's already been said through comments, so I'm sure you'll make it rather interesting. xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shabazik In reply to animal-delos [2010-10-30 13:50:42 +0000 UTC]

It can't be Quilintha, as she is a "first generation" acolyte: so that leave Ivoÿn and Milvais:

Thought you can discover to who she is related looking her physical aparience and uniform. :3

animal-delos In reply to Shabazik [2010-10-30 13:52:30 +0000 UTC]

The chopstick thingies in the hair make me have to believe that it is Milvais XD She also has a very similar facial structure to Milvais too, but now I'm second guessing myself and I am betting I am wrong, aren't I? lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shabazik In reply to animal-delos [2010-10-30 14:09:15 +0000 UTC]

Uh? I don't see chopstick thingies in her air (thought the two acolytes behind her have them)...

The hints are mostly her size (relatively short) and her armor, wich demostrate she is from a rich family:

Milvais is from a traditional acolyte family (and above the average drow high by a few cm), but not specially rich: Instead she must had enough economical power:

Therefore, she is familiar with Ivoÿn! :3

animal-delos In reply to Shabazik [2010-10-30 20:39:54 +0000 UTC]

I see. XD Then hopefully she find Ivoyn and bring her home soon. I'm sure Ivoyn is not fairing so well coming from a rich family and having been used to high life as an acolyte and such.
