I love the Deck detail on Fiddler's belt :3 But I am confused on who the sad guy and ginger-hat-wearer are, obviously one is mallet (the hat guy would fit how I pictured him) and the other I can't fit.. my memory is shoddy af, tho

edit: oh, CUTTLE! Dang it *shame*

I'm reading it now but i can't read too long without rest coz I have fever and cough. Hahah. Hood's breath man! That scene is awesome!

I think you should do A Quick Ben with 11 silhouettes (coz of the 11 souls he shifted to himself). Hahah. Don't know how you'd fit those silhouettes but I think it would be awesome.

Great Picture! I like the colors you used, gives it a nice atmosphere and you managed to capture the different personalities.

I always find it challenging to come up with convincing armor pieces but you did a good job with it!

I know! The ref I used had some pseudo tech dark ages plate thing going on. I thought it was interesting and may have gotten carried away .

I got informed by the work of fellow artists over at MAG. Stood on the shoulders of giants as it were. Malazan fan art has a ton of great artists behind it.

q.q..Queen of Dreams! You're like a real life Ormulogun!
(hypnotoad as Gumble)..(without words)

Your Malazan gallery works are stellar! I very much look forward to revisiting when I am further along in the series. The temptation is great considering how compelling your art is.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Hypnotad as gumpble makes all kinds of sense.

Oh I wouldn't want to tempt you. "Most" of my stuff is non-scene specific. That policy may crash and burn pretty soon though. What book are you on? who are your favourites?

Sketchy-on-Details In reply to Shadaan [2013-11-22 02:52:22 +0000 UTC]

OK.. ...I looked some.. and am witness..lead us art leader

Just concluded House of Chains (so 4 books into the Book of the Fallen). I am considering reading Night of Knives since it is based before Gardens and I believe involves Surly, Kellanved and Dancer's back story. Though, im not sure yet. It's tricky, I want to know more but am trying hard to avoid spoilers. (Suggestions?)

Favorites? hmmm ..thats both an easy and hard inquiry..

I very much enjoy Kruppe & Karsa (Polar opposites when it comes to dialogue). Itkovian, WhiskeyJack, Fid/Strings, Mappo Runt, the Noms (Rallick and Torvald), Toc the Younger, Crone, and Raest have been my favorite POV reads. (Torvald Nom thru Karsa)

Then there are sentimental favorites; Who could not like and want more of..The Seguleh, The Rope, Icarium, Moby the bhoka'rala(+ demonic soletaken), Bauchelain (and man servant Reese & cat), Apt & Panek, Bent the cattle dog & Roach the lapdog, Corporal Stormy, Coltaine-Bult-Duiker-List, Onos T'oolan, Hetan Taur, all theΒ  Bridgeburners and of course..Joyful Union (the odhans deadliest couple).

Karsa would say this reply has too many words

Oh man the reading order is always tough to recommend on.

If you started off with Gardens of the Moon and are four books in then I assume you read Deadhouse gates, Memories of ice and house of chains in that order? I read the books in semi reverse order with MoI first. It didn't really change much (made it beter IMHO). Most books are great stand alone reads but you tend to miss the links if you mix it up after house of chains.

Heres a time map I find helpful: i.imgur.com/sXBYA.jpg

I'd suggest you read on with this in mind and it will smooth together nicely.

I'd say yeah, give ICE a try, Knight of Knives was a book taken from the perspective of Temper and kiska. Two characters I find a bit odd to read. They do link you back to the Kellenved and Dancer duo. ALOT of back story in this particular book including a few very tasty accounts of Dassem Ultor, my personal nomination for badass of the century. If you like more on the founding fathers of the Malazan empire this is a good one to look into. Most Ian C. Esselmont books I've read have alot of Dassem, a high ratio of soletaken and a huge amount of seguleh history, especially in the latest books.

I love how you almost mentioned the entire cast of the books here lol. All those characters you mentioned are great reads. I figure Karsa to be your all time fave? if so, you'll LOVE the next 3 books. Midnight Tides was also a great book because you meet Tehol & Bugg (Think Kruppe with less food and more blankets). If I were in your shoes I'd probably push the main series after you try Knight of Knives. The ICE Novellas are a good way to fill in the wait for more Erikson.Β

Sketchy-on-Details In reply to Shadaan [2013-11-22 07:08:18 +0000 UTC]

Yes, correct.

Interesting. Thats a fun way to have read it. They've so far been cool independent "convergence" or great powers adventures keenly interwoven within a wider world. I've read an excerpt from Night of Knives and I sorta see ( )what you mean by putting Erikson's BoF series toward the forefront . ICE's writing cadence scripting familiar malazan world references has a distinctly different imagery. I'll probably go ahead with NoK to check it out, then continue with the BoF series. yes, Hood's former Knight of Death. He's mentioned a bunch. I suspect the Traveller from Drift Ava..something(um , the island off of Quon Tali) is Dassem Ultor given the very strong suggestions. I'm looking forward to finding out moreΒ

haha, the opening for plurals was in the question so i suppose I sort of exploited that . Admittedly a lot of cool ascendents and gods were excluded and the list has a greater ratio of mortal/to ascendent+ to it. Karsa is indeed cool and has shown a unique quality to adapt to extraordinary changes. A reader finds a comforting fortitude when reading a pov who has such genuine self assurance and brutal yet natural sense of justice(he's cold steel and hot steel as Mathok said, willingly adjusting pragmatism to Teblor absolutism) . While compelling ,and still fresh in the mind after completing HoC's, I confess to favoring Kruppe the Daru before all others.Β  I wont numb you with the why's. Unless pressed, even if said press is ever so slightly

This suggestion of similarities in upcoming volumes reassures me of future fun adventures. Thx dude! Lest we forget why this comment began, your First ones in.. rocks!

Ah well two things. Firstf all the characters I genuinely feel can do no wrong, there are but three.

Tehol
Iskaral Pust
Kruppe

I think I can guess why you like Kruppe but share away, I am sorry to tell you he gets a few not so great takes later on but that's hardly the fault of anyone, things get pretty hectic, I won't say anything more than that. Just make room for the wows.

Suffice to say the above three are pure WIN.

Second: Hope you keep Reading and Good luck with ICE. He handles some of my favourite story arcs, just need to flex your mind around the style shift. Its why I try keep my reading of the two authors as seperate as possible.

Feel free to chat to me about the books via pm, I'm happy to discuss some of the more confusing/mind twisty aspects. and its always awesome to get new opinions on the events.

I find theres always something I forget or can appreciate in a new way so am always interested.

Cool dude!

This bodes well for future reading, and I shall follow through. The story is far better than the other things Im currently following in other leisure media (excluding my manga proclivities..of course )

Im in agreement about spacing out the authors, I also apply that towards mangaka/manwha(ka?) and the new art from the deviants I follow. makes for better consumption and digestion.. ..why am I getting hungry..

I'll take ya up on that, when its a subject of enjoyment I'm a chatty cathy
