Description ...I hesitantly drop into the water, take a deep breath and once more grip the shark-thief who pulls me quickly through an intricate series of pipes designed to disorientate and trap any tomb raiders. Hopefully my guide hasn’t lost his touch...

And yet another new character. Well, he's been with me for a while now. This picture has been in the works for... four months? This guy, even longer.

So everybody, meet Jalcean. Pronounced 'yal-SEEN'. His story is long, complicated and at the moment about 45 pages. In short, he was a tomb-raider, Robin Hood style but slipped up and stole a trinket meant for the gods and got his ass cursed as a shark. Irony is that his culture's civilization is based around a deep connection with the ocean and all the creatures in it. Their god of justice just happens to be a giant arbitrary shark.

Way to go, Jalcean. Way to go. SO here we are, enroute to breaking his curse. Under his city is a maze of catacombs, aqueducts and labyrinths such as the one depicted here. Being a tomb-raider, he's got a ridiculously good sense of direction thank god!

The freakiest thing about all this was not the fact I was being chaperoned by a sentient shark but after I had the first dream with him in it there was a two week spree of shark incidents, shark related scientific stuffs, the school library even got a huge 40cmx40cm photography book purely on sharks, mostly on Great Whites[I have dreams in sequence, often correlating to stuff that happens a few days/month later]!

Have at ye, I am most definitely weird.

If I saw a any shark, let alone one that big, I'd immediately be detected 'cause I'd piss myself, then I'd be eaten 'cause I'd be frozen with fear!

Good work though!

Thanks! ^v^

Sharks don't actually just smell something interesting and eat though, and most sharks don't have 'food' provoked by a scent they don't know- eg, human urine or human blood for that matter. Even a 'White would probably come over and then decide you're not worth it xD That being said, a healthy respect [as opposed to outright fear] is pretty useful when dealing with predators this size.

Well I know they can smell blood and are attracted by it, and they also sense the electromagnetic field around you.

And I really just ment that being frozen with fear, I'd be easy prey if he in fact DID want to eat me, heheh.

Thnx fer the info, though!

I was obsessed with sharks from a very young age, having your first memory be of watching Jaws tends to do that to you. I would have so many dreams of shark attacks that any body of water would utterly terrify me. The first piece of fiction I ever wrote was about sharks gaining legs and lungs, more recently I created the Robo sharks, a race of cyborg sharks with machine guns rocket launchers and jets. Even in my latest story with the farsh-nuke I had an immortal batman inspired hero who styled himself the Shark Knight. When Steven Moffat gave us flying sharks the christmas before last I practically fainted lol

Keep up the good work

Ahh Jaws! If I don't laugh at it, I'm gonna weep. I'm also obsessed with sharks, but I love them to absolute pieces. Strangely, even as a surfer, I don't fear them.

I'll have to have a beak about your hero, sounds awesome!

And thank you as well ^v^

Well the Shark Knight's in an as yet unreleased and unfinished NaNoWriMo but this link will take you to the first piece of prose writing I really did called evolution of the wereshark [link]

It's nice to see someone so enthusiastic and as an incredibly lazy geek I applaud the fact that you surf especially because here in England while we may have waves the water's far too cold for anyone less than the serious fanatics to try lol

Hells yeah NaNoWriMo. Rock it

Hah, yeah. I'll take advantage of the water as long as it's looking good. And thanks. Even here in Aus I'll don fullbody wetsuit over a longsleved rash shirt because it's chilly even then.

Ohh this is an amazing piece of work! I have such a huge fear of sharks, its kinda odd since one of my fave animals is the whale shark! (Of course those are pretty much the most docile creatures ever)

This picture looks like Atlantis. Its just a beautiful picture I love it. And I feel sorry for this guy being a shark..then again its kinda amazing..being able to see what a shark see's and feel what they feel.

Thank you!
Yeah, whale sharks are lovely things, and so gorgeous! [Dem spots :3 ]

His society [architecturally at least] is fairly involved with water, and as such is like Venice gone mad, with a dash of catacombs and under-water ruins. Pretty Atalantis-y indeed xD
Yeah, once he go over the shock of it all, and once the curse was broken so he wasn't stuck as a shark, he started to like it more. Though he'll probably never openly admit it xD Stubborn ass manshark.

Again, thanks!

Ahh yes! Okay that's a great concept I love the Atlantis feel honestly, its so mysterious..and you can really use a ton of imagination with it since well yeah its kinda open to interpretation! :3

Well I love your "manshark" guy he's so beautiful in this artwork. And kinda makes me want to see more, do you have more of this whole story?

And you're so welcome. :3 You drew me in like a fish on a reel aha! Used a funny pun there. xD

Atlantis is itself a fantastic trigger for all sorts of wonderous thinkings! Jalcean's society is a little more modern, thus a little more like Venice. Except there's no laws about speed boats xD

I do have more, my most recent artwork is him floating about, post-curse. And I have most of his entire story written down, but it's about 60 pages long at last count.

Oh look you made a funny!

Thankyou muchly for the lovely comments and interest in Mr Manshark!

Well I love the Venice feel, I truly do. You have such a vivid imagination and I LOVE when artists have that imagination because it really draws people in.

OH! 60?? Wow that's impressive, well then damn I have someone to look up to. I love writing, just been lazy and have not finished the few stories I got going. AND I want to start on more! -shot-

You're so welcome, again truly love your work! Now I gotta go check out our gallery! Curious kitty is curious.

Vivid and often filled with wonderous levels of madness!

It's taken a few consecutive dreams and almost a year of writing bits and pieces. And there are ALWAYS more to start... I have six or seven in various stages.

Don't worry bout getting bitten, everything's pretty friendly xD

I am always writing new stories, but I can't ever finish them, its pretty depressing. Hopefully I can actually finish one! But I'm starting another one..oi

You're artwork is simply outstanding though, needless to say!

Lately I've seen nothing but sharks around me lately I even had a dream were I was a shark anthro, and today I just joined a shark group here on DA. I don't know if there is a meaning to all of my shark sightings or what.

I don't know if this means I'm a shark or just a person who loves the ocean which I do but I need somebody elses thoughts on this, so what do you think this means!

Also it's really great seeing art from you again.

Do you still see the headless horseman or any other ghosts?

Shade703 In reply to Midnight-Ghost-Light [2011-09-11 09:45:19 +0000 UTC]

Wow- hat would have been an awesome dream.

I believe a dream can only be really rightly interpreted by the person who had it, mostly because as soon as another person tries to understand it the meaning becomes warped, and perhaps even lost all together. But to me personally sharks are an authority figure of the ocean, either symbolizing your right to justice or if you are the one fearing the shark that you've stepped out of line somewhere.

Once again, that's all my own personal interpretation.

Thankyou! And no, I haven't seen Rider in a long time but thankfully I've got all sorts of whacky people flitting about.
