Description This is the result of getting an overdose of oriental themed movies. Afew days ago I watched Mulan, the next day I wathced Kung Fu Panda and two days later I watched Kung Fu Panda 2. I had to let that out in somehow.

I don't know why I picked Lugia and Ho-Oh for this one. Well, I do like it, though. I've never really drawn anything that resembled the old Japanese art style this much. I have to say I really enjoyed painting this and I think I might do something similar in the future. :>

I hope you like it!

Thank you very much for the comment! I really appreciate it. :> I'm really glad to hear I succeeded in making it look like an ancient Chinese/Japanese painting.
A few people have actually asked if it was possible to get a large canvas print of this and I've been thining about it. If you're interested, I can try to find out if there are print shops that can make canvas prints. It's probably going to be rather expensive, though.
Anyway, thank you again!

I'm VERY interested. Ultimately, I'd love a big one to go over my bed.

DeviantART doesn't permit fanart prints but I could take a good quality print at my school. The paper's good and it's probably not even that expensive.

How much would you charge?

It depends on what size you want the print to be. It determines the price of both printing and shipping.

I think you did an amazing job on this. I can tell you used water colors because Ho-Oh has the texture. Plus the waves are magnifacently blending together. Lugia has the waves to swim in and Ho-Oh has the cloud to soar in. What I'm trying to say is that this is an amazing piece of artwork.
The Mountains of Flames (Ho-Oh's side), and The Sea of Icy Waters shall face off!!! Ho-Oh looks like he will spit fire on Lugia. Then, Lugia will put out the fire with with his Water Pulse!!!!!!!! There battle will NEVER end!!!! Again, this is an amazing piece. I hope EVERYONE will put this on their Favorites because this is plain sweet. Hope the world sees your MASTER PIECE!!!!!!

Thank you very much for this critique! I'm glad to hear you like it and I also like it that you actually made your own interpretation of the mountains and the waves and whatnot. It always makes me glad when people put thought into viewing my pieces.
Thank you, once again!

Where was Lugia born in/native to? Shamouti Island, or the Whirl Islands?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadeofShinon In reply to De6s25j [2019-07-30 15:04:03 +0000 UTC]

I would say it's born in the Whirl Islands but since Johto and Kanto are linked it probably has a vast territory that reaches all over to the Shamouti islands.

Where there natives in the Whirl Islands or was it only theΒ Kimonos? because Lugia must be a mix African/Japanese like the native Whirlans.

I haven't had prints of this in stock in a good while but I do have the print file. I could upload it on a printing service website such as INPRNT or Redbubble where you could purchase it. i think it would be cheaper and easier that way!

Wow, for being inexperienced with old Japanese style, you really got it down well! Loving this, especially those clouds! Being skilled with ink must be a big help, this is excellent!

Thank you! Having practised with ink sure is helpful. I'm trying to start using inks more and more. Even though I love watercolours I feel like inks are more like the medium I want to use in these paintings.

Would you ever consider making this an art print? Because seriously...i would LOVE to have this framed on my wall <3 This one and the other with the 3 legendary birds.... <3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadeofShinon In reply to Malibu-Maws [2013-06-10 18:56:48 +0000 UTC]

Sure! I have actually made prints of this and the other painting for conventions before. I'm going to print these for an upcoming con again so if you want to buy them it'll be no problem. The price of one print would be 7€ (euro) and shipping to US would be 9€ as the prints are about as long as an A3 sheet and need a bigger envelope. The prints will be high quality on good paper. Total price would therefore be 23€ (30,35 USD).

Ah, Okami... The game that's rated T for just about every reason possible. I remember reading some of the stuff that Issun said and I was like Oh, Issun... And I can't wait for the next one to come out! The 2nd one left at a good spot that makes you think, "Will he actually get to find his parents in the next one?" XD

I haven't played the spin-off game either, but I'd like to try it out some time. I'm not usually excited about sequels. The Elder Scrolls and the likes are an exception but I don't know what to think about an Okami sequel.

I would think Ho-Oh would be at a volcano because he is a Fire Type. Don't change it though. It is beautiful this way, too.

ShadeofShinon In reply to midnight-812379 [2012-06-14 20:43:13 +0000 UTC]

You're right, but in this picture I tried to make the background match the areas where these two legendaries dwell. The sea represents Lugia's territory and the forests and montains the rest of Johto, Ho-Oh's territory. Besides, I think a volcano would be more suitable for Moltres anyway.
