Those markings is 1 of 2 the red one is corruption: the soul is forever corrupted by anger or evil, the purple one is proxy which the ones who have that marking work for nightmare but only some with a great amount of magic can see those markings.

Well in Jacobs story him and his friend ty(not sure of you got to her story) where the first one for nightmare's plan, nightmare was around way befor but was busy getting proxxys & followers to scout for him while he got stronger, but then me and my partner got too busy to continue so I just took small peices to redo the au
