Very unusual photograph, it's almost abstract.
You don't often see close-ups like this, beautiful photograph!!

Photos of birds rarely focus so closely on talons...I love the lighting of this too. Excellent photo!

thank you, that is exactly what I thought too! I was trying to find an angle that people rarely see an owl from and I think this was the best I could come up with in this setting.

thats a shame, I was lucky that I had my 400mm lens with me that day, so could get zoomed in enough to get the shot. This is of a captive bird too which helps!

Yeah, my lens only goes up to 200 mm

technically mine 'only' does 200mm too but I've got a teleconverter that doubles the range, very handy and much cheaper than buying a lens capable of 400mm!

they are very useful, but I don't always use mine because it can mean a decline in clarity of the image, for example when I'm trying to shoot action shots I don't use it because I won't get super sharp 'frozen in motion' look I like. But if the subject is relatively still then its very good

I always chuckle at the way people are fearful of a predator's beak but largely disregard it's real offensive and defensive weapons, it's talons.
Good idea and good treatment.

That's usually the first things people ask; "does it bite?" They never realise the main weapons are those crushing talons.
Once you have had one of these birds on your fist, you'll respect them!
Most people also ask if the birds always come back when we let them fly. And yes, they do come back every time, otherwise they wouldn't be here anymore, would they?

thank you, and you are so right, people do normally forget about the talons, thats why I put the little tennis ball fact in there!

Oh wow - a great shot! Love the colour, it makes it seem like some sort of fantasy image ... the claws of a dragon, perhaps.

thank you I was trying to think of a way to photograph an owl that people don't normally focus on, didn't turn out too bad
