Description
Next Scene:Previous Scene:
So let's talk about the elephant in the room--Sauron. He's a dragon, and he has no armor. I can defend my choice of character for each role fairly well, but with Sauron, my only explanation is that my pony version looked atrocious. And the lack of armor? I couldn't get it to look good. Trust me when I say that this armorless version looks better than the armored version.
You'll also notice I tried something a little different with this one with the panels, and I think from now on, when I need to use panels, I'll stick with traditional, straight-lined boxes.
One (maybe two) more pictures planned for the prologue stuff, and then, what I've been looking forward to for months now (wow, really, has it been months since I started?), the Shire! I'm so excited to draw all those little filly-hobbits!
Fun times ahead!

It was in this moment... when all hope had faded... that Isildur, son of the King, took up his father's sword.

Sauron, the Enemy of the free peoples of Middle Earth... was defeated.

wouldn't it have been better with nightmare moon as sauron? cause then you get to use an actual villain as well as a character who's known for wearing armor.

It would be better if Sombra is Sauron,he vears armor and he was inspired by Sauron

I actually had this idea a little while ago, I had no idea someone else had already started work on it, and done so well, too!
Although, I'm really not too keen on Garble as Sauron. Surely Discord would have been a better choice? And I would have thought with Rarity as Legolas (which I wholely endorse), you'd use Applejack as Gimli, with RD as Boromir (tempted by Sauron/Discord, right?).
Of course, that leaves Aragorn's slot empty... Shining Armor? Might work.
Anyway, I guess I'm a bit late with these suggestions, but there's my 2 cents anyway.
Your work is excellent regardless.

You know, Garble looks a lot like Smaug from the Hobbit.

It is indeed a ponified Lord of the Rings; this is part of a series of pictures and comics by the author with the same theme.

Sorry for not commenting earlier. D: This looks good to me, at least; I especially like the first panel.
Can't wait for the next picture... and I wonder how ponies will be able to put on the One Ring. Will it have the same size-changing capabilities it had in the books (and the films too, I think)?

No worries--thanks for the support.
The Ring's ability to change size is exactly what I had in mind. It's pretty much the only reason I can get away with having it bracelet-sized (when worn by a pony).
I like the first panel the best too. Originally, I was just going to do a picture of only that first panel, but I knew if I did that I would be doing at least four more prologue pictures, so I added on the next two panels as (and this is going to sound bad) a way of cutting down on the number of individual pictures I'd have to do before getting to start the actual books.

He certainly has, lol . I'll do a better job with the rest of the villains, I promise!

Although I like the idea of Sauron beeing a big bad dragon, imo this dragon is sadly not as impressive as it could/should be. Especially in the last panel he looks far to "nice" - almost as if he would say "May I help you back to your feet?" instead of "I'm going to make you flat as a sheet of paper.

Lol, I completely agree with your critique of Sauron. If I were to revise, I'd probably make him preparing to stomp Isildur into paste in that third panel.

Elendil...Noooooo!
I suppose it doesn't really matter who you picked to be Sauron. I mean, he is going to just be an eye ball of fire soon enough. *shrug* Dragon works just fine....but I feel the need to ask, why a teenage dragon? Just for the size difference?
All the same, I am still loving that you are doing this!!

Less about the size difference and more because if I ever get around to doing The Hobbit, I'll obviously need a dragon for Smaug, and it would feel weird having both Sauron and Smaug being fyll-sized adult dragons.
Thanks for your support, despite my disappointing Sauron.

It would be so awkward if he was big and epic like the one that falls asleep in the cavern, but this one is small and the head is a bit funky looking, oh well you can rework his charter design later.

I see what you did there. The rude dragon as sauron.
I would have peed my pants if you made sauron crackle.

It probably would've been way better to have done something humorous like that.
