Description
The door opened so slowly and for a moment he despised it, because beyond it stood the room which held her. When he entered, he noted the few jedi who stood within. He could feel their eyes upon him as he walked purposefully up to the glass pod that held her body. He wondered if any of them could feel the darkness that clung to his soul. He noted that his Master, Shimi, stood off to one side, tears misting her eyes. He paused as one of the medics typed a code into the keypad on the side of the medical pod. The glass lid began to open and Jelaket’s lovely peaceful face became all too clear.

All eyes were upon him now and he could feel their apprehension as he gently reached down and slid an arm underneath her shoulders and slowly lifted her until her face was mere inches from his own. He gently cupped her cheek with his free hand, a few tendrils of her soft black hair laced lazily through his fingers as he closed his eyes and lowered his lips to hers.

Her lips were soft and cold, he had to fight the urge to pull her close as he concentrated on releasing her soul back within her. Deep within, he felt the warmth of her energy and as he concentrated he felt a shiver of heat and the flutter of heartbeat through his fingertips. He realized then that her soul alone would not be able to restore her to reality and he knew what he had to do.

Slowly, he released small bits of his force energy into her until, at last, he had nothing more to give. He felt the darkness threatening to close in upon him as he felt her draw in her first sharp breath. He let his lips part from hers as she took a second deep breath. He could hear those around him brighten at the sound of her breathing. He managed a brief smile as he gazed down at her, but the pain within him was too much, he was unbalanced now, and he could feel the darkness within him rising forth.

“Forgive me the bargain I have made…” He whispered softly to Ket as he knew what inevitably would happen next. He fought to keep conscience and took a second step back before dropping to his knees.

He heard Shimi’s soft cry of alarm and heard her footsteps as she came to his side. “Chris…?!”

He could barely hear her as she spoke his name. He felt her hand upon his shoulder. “She’s safe now. That’s all that matters...” He managed to whisper as all senses finally failed and he slipped unconscience to the floor.

Shimi touched a hand to his throat and yelled for a medic. He was alive, but she could feel the war his spirit was having with the darkness.

Nearby Jelaket opened her hazel eyes and softly whispered Chris’s name. One medic stood above Jelaket as another moved towards Chris’s fallen form as the door to the chamber burst open to reveal the ebony cloaked form of Lady Raine. “I have come to collect on an oath sworn.” She called out as the lightsabers began to flare all around. “By the force, you know I speak truth.” She spoke defiantly as she moved towards Chris’s fallen form accompanied by a dozen ebony and crimson clad figures.

“Step back Shimistra Darkwalker.” Lady Raine commanded coldly as she stood above the unconscience young jedi. “He belongs to me now.”

Shimi’s lightsabre cast a violet glow over the sith lord. They locked gazes as Shimi reluctantly took a step back. “The family Darkwalker is in this man’s debt now…do not think we shall forget that.” Shimi replied as two of Lady Raine’s companions begin to carry Chris from the room.

“It matters not to me.” Lady Raine spoke passionlessly, “The deal was a life for a life..just be glad I didn’t decide to take more.” She said as she turned and left the room and the hum of lit lightsabres far behind. She had a new padawan to train and she would start tonight while his spirit was still weak.
