Dusty sunshine swirling through the gap in the curtains.
I breathe and stir the air,
Leaving the imprint of parted lips, burned into your memory…

     But all burns heal.

One day when the sun rises, angry red for its awakening…
I know you will forget
How once I granted you an innocent, undeniable smile,

     Because all burns heal.

Letting the world fly past your eyes fifteen times a second,
Judging what to remember…
No insignificant moment will win the battle beyond short-term memory.

     Some moments don't even leave a trace of heat.

Moments that now are silent once had a certain sound.
The moments you will remember
Are the seconds that held the hand of my rare, honest laughter.

But even those moments–
The ones you remember now–
The ones that you can truthfully say are burned into your memory;
     Even those burns will heal.

The scars of me will fade away.
In time I will be nothing,
Not even a distant memory.
     Unless you are one who never heals.
