Watching their lips move. They shape out different sounds, constantly morphing smacking, spreading, parting, scrunching. They stretch over their teeth, caught in a grin as they pause, allowing a friend to respond.

I watch their lips. I watch them change as their owners exchange words. Sounds, which I cannot hear. The meaning of their sentences, the reason for their laughter... It's all lost as one of them turns his head, his lips still. He frowns a bit, his lips seal closed. He watches the road go by.

His friends fail to notice his stillness. They continue on, talking, laughing, smiling, nodding. Making those sounds, forming out those words. Oblivious to the world passing them by.

The one, he turns his head back toward the others. Instantly, a grin ruptures his features. He nods, laughing. But his eyes are still lost in the outside world. And no one notices his detachment.
