The first and definitely most important piece of advice that you'll learn by looking at other people's Bryce work:

The lone terrain object, with the mossy rock texture, placed on an infinite water plane, is by far the most cliche thing to ever be made in that program. Now I'll admit, that's how I started (same exact texture, too, same exact), and I was freakin proud of that accomplishment and showed it to my family, friends, and complete strangers on the street. "Lookit what I made! Lookit!" It's how we all start. Now let's go from there.

I'm beginning a series on Bryce and Photoshop tutorials on another name. In a couple hours, I'm going to post a tutorial on making Bolean Objects in Bryce 5, and other tips and tricks I use. They are extensive, and they will take a while to make, so if you want to add either myself (to see what Bryce can do) or the new account [link] to your friends list, I'll be certain to give something worthwhile.

Yeah, I got Maya 5.0 too. Downloaded it last night. I'll mail it to you or something, it'd be faster than you dling it at 56k.

My first piece of advice -- don't stop.

Second -- Increase your antialiasing level. I usually render at maximum everything.

I woulda used a different material for that background terrain, too.. having the material map repeated as high as it is looks.. kinda off.

I do Bryce 5 stuff too, feel free to check out the few things I have done
