-----

"Mister Shadow Knight! I want to thank you again for saving my son here!"

"It was no problem. I did what I had to, sir."

"Hey! Mister! Can you tell me a story!"

"That's rude, don't go asking-"

"No, no, it's fine. The boy wants a story."

"Sorry about that, whenever he sees a stranger he wants them to tell him a story."

"Again, it is alright. I have many to tell. You may want to grab a chair."

...

Many years ago during a time of knights and thieves, there were two men, Randir and Einar. Randir was a loyal knight to King Mattias, and Einar was a Viking who slaughtered many men, women, and children for the sheer enjoyment of it. Randir and Einar hated each other. Randir despised Einar for his cruelty, and Einar felt the same because Randir constantly pursued him and ruined his raids.

One day, Randir defeated Einar.

"Yes!"

Heh, I feel the same way about that. Anyways, Randir brought Einar to King Mattias to decide his fate. Randir wished to execute Einar, but Mattias chose to spare him.

"Huh? Why?"

Mattias wanted to gather one great warrior of each main group to become his elites. Einar would fill in for the Vikings. He'd gather a samurai, a Mongol, a Spartan-

"Were Spartans really around at that time?"

Honestly, I don't understand it either. Anyways, with each of these elites, one of Mattias's main knights would accompany each of them. Guess which one would accompany Einar?

"Randir?"

Correct. They fought alongside each other, for years and years on end, teeth grit as they worked together. After five years, do you know what Randir offered to Einar?

"What?"

His hand. And Einar shook it. They had grown to respect each other, and Einar had come to understand Randir's view on things. He no longer felt a desire to ruin others' lives, all thanks to Randir's companionship.

"Wow. What happened after that?"

They became friends. Inseparable. A team. The closest two allies could ever become. And then the Blackwatch appeared. An army led by a man who conquered because he could, and they invaded the castle.

"Wait, what?!"

Einar and Randir went to the front lines to defend the castle. However, the Blackwatch's leader was smart and recognized their teamwork and had them separated. Einar survived the battle. Randir did not. With his friend's dead corpse in his hands, Einar felt a rage he'd never met before. He waited inside the castle for the attackers to burst in, and slaughtered as many of them as he could before the enemy leader killed him with his own hand. King Mattias was slain, the castle left to ruin, and nobody remembered that they even existed.

"That's how the story ends? That's so-"

The story has not ended at all. It still continues to this day.

"Huh? What do you mean?"

Some say that Randir still wanders the earth today.

Or, perhaps, Einar does.
