Description
This is my proto-changeling General Rallyk as done by the wonderful (Rizen on Furaffinity) This was her first changeling of any kind~Rallyk comes from an alternate universe that stems from my personal theory on that unknown history, I am not going to get into that now as that would take far too long. To sum it up, There is evidence that ponies came from somewhere else, and there are hints that something terrible happened in their past.
There once was an entire world of ponies that was a true utopian society. This world was ruled by two deities; the goddess Harmony, and her consort, the god Peace. All was well and their children were safe and happy for quite some time, until the day that the goddess Despair fell upon their world with her forces. It became quickly apparent that the peaceful ponies of Equedia were incapable of putting up an effective defense against the various races of the invading army. Thus the birth of the first generation of changelings, or proto-changelings to some.
Among these new changelings was one that showed the drive and the stability to make decisions under pressure for the whole of his brothers and sisters, and thus Rallyk was taken into further training to learn to lead a military campaign as best his pony trainers could teach him. As a result, he has never learned to express or understand his own emotions. Left to flounder with them, he simply decided they were pointless and made him weak in the face of the enemy, causing him to discard them as something to ignore. He was not without emotion, he simply ignored them and never expressed any but fury in the heat of battle. Despite his stoic demeanor, the general had a deep care for all his brothers and sisters, as well as for every pony they defended from the forces of Despair. In his time he was regarded as a hero and an example for every soldier in the Equedian defense corps. He lead his brothers, the paladins of Peace and his sisters, the clerics of Harmony, to many successful counter offensives against the forces of Despair over the course of ten years to even manage to grind the advance to a halt. In those last months, tensions ran high and it was not uncommon for a pony to break under the slim glimmers of home surrounded by hopelessness. One such incident left the General caring for a pegasus mare and her foal that he had grown fond of. He was not certain what he felt for them as their relationship grew until the day that Despair finally tipped her hand and flooded Equedia with the true might of her forces. They were simply too numerous to fight and it was agreed that the remaining ponies would flee to a new world their deities watched over as well. Lord Peace had a plan to ensure they could not be followed and to protect the rest of their universe from Despair, but he needed time to set his trap right atop the heads of her forces. Knowing they were nothing more than weapons of war, the first generation changelings volunteered to stay behind and buy their Father time to unleash his trap. By this time the second generation was ready for battle, but they were intended to use subversion to weaken the enemy and crumble them from within. Thus they were capable of functioning in a society, so they would go on with Harmony and protect the other pony tribes. It was on that final day, in that final moment, that the general shed his first tears as he took his mare in his hooves to place a kiss to her lips to tell her how he felt and say good bye. He would not fall that day as would every last one of his brothers and sisters, he would be given a duty at the very last moment that only he could perform as the single active Element of Peace. Ever bound by honor and loyalty, Rallyk submitted to having his soul stored in a spirit vessel to act as a permanent anchor to prevent the full destruction of Lord Peace as he brought down his trap and drew every last flow of cosmic radiation directly upon their planet and bathed that world in that toxic energy. Unfortunately one final attempt to strike down the deity was made by Despair's dying forces and a magical attack rocked the temple and shattered the window that was the general's soul vessel to leave his spirit splintered and shattered for ten thousand years.
It was then that ponies returned and began restoring the world and eventually freed the general from his prison. Now he faces a society he does not understand and memories that no pony should have. While his role is unquestioned as he serves the new Equedian princess of Hope as the sole member of the Equedian military, his true place within society is very uncertain. He struggles to learn modern social protocols and behaviors whilst dealing with everything from strong prejudice for his species for events he is unaware of, to overly interested mares he has no interest in and gossip groups. His stoic emotionless state has caused many rumors to circulate about him in both pony and changeling societies. Rallyk does show signs of PSTD, most notably in the form of a recurring nightmare that shows him the moment of every pony and changeling he lost during the war with Despair. He does tend to spend much of his time alone if he can manage, though he was given the responsibility of holding a refugee and her foal in protective custody as his most recent orders. Despite all this, he has been seen smiling to foals and older children. He has even removed his helmet to allow them to touch the armor and feel the weight.
There are some specific attributes and abilities that he shares with his brethren that modern changelings do not. Most notably is his lack of need to feed, which is directly linked to the lack of holes in his limbs and other portions of his body. He is still the element of honor and thus carries the recovering essence of Peace, whom constantly feeds him the love of a god. His size is another feature of the first generation that was not transferred to the second to be passed on. He stands a bit taller than Princess Luna, with the physique of a royal guard to give him great strength to carry and even fight in his heavy plate armor. As a paladin, he has the ability to channel his love based magic into his body and enhance his physical attributes for a short burst of speed or strength. Like the modern changeling, he has the force charge ability seen in the Canterlot wedding, but it goes a bit further for the first generation stallions specifically. They have the ability to focus the magic strike to a single hoof and , in Rallyk's case, the tip of his horn to give extra power to his strikes. He is capable of creating small shields to deflect magical attacks, although not to outright block them.
The big question; Shape shifting. Rallyk can shift his form, however it is not a perfect shift like a modern changeling. He can take the shape of a species, but he retains his chitin, wings and eyes. The trade off for the first generation was the ability to extend their shifting abilities into inorganic materials, such as stone, gems, glass, and metals. Most often Rallyk applies this to his element to create his horn guard rather than the usual sun shaped jewel and upon his helmet when he feels the need to remove it. He simply integrates the material into his armor, either adding material to existing plates or creating steel feathers to frame his wings.
Despite the fact of constantly being fed the love of a deity, that deity is in a weakened state and thus Rallyk's own love based abilities are significantly weaker than he once wielded against Despair's minions. Despite this, he remains a force to be reckoned with.
