So, I'm scrapping my old 'what happened to Kopa' theories since I have a new one.

I realized that if Zira had straight up murdered Kopa, then she wouldn't have been banished. She would have been most likely killed on the spot. Since we don't want that, here's the thing.

Zira, the manipulator she is, took advantage of the cub's naivety to psychologically 'torture' him and make him get rid of himself for her so that no suspicion was directed towards her.

When she first caught Kopa on his own, she was straight with him: he would have to go to the elephant graveyard and let them finish him off. If he refused, then she would have the followers of Scar who had perfectly blended in with the pride attack the Pridelanders. He couldn't warn anyone either, it would be the same result. So Kopa intimidated by Zira, did go to the elephant graveyard, but escaped with getting beaten up some.

Zira was mad that the cub escaped. She confronted Kopa for a second time. This time he had to stage up that he 'accidentally' slipped of the edge of Pride Rock. Again, the young prince couldn't do else but do what Zira ordered. But his friend Afua caught him near the edge and got him to leave the edge.

Once again, Kopa had gotten away, making Zira all the more furious. So she caught Kopa alone again by the river and confronted him about how he kept 'avoiding his task'. So she knew that she had to do it on her own. Zira pushed the prince in the river and the thing was that Kopa didn't even try to resist. He was convinced that if he got out of the way, then his family and pride would be safe. The only witness to this 'murder' was Afua.

The lioness silenced him, but that didn't matter because Afua had ran off on his own, frantically trying to find out if his friend had survived the fall in result falling in the river himself.

Kopa was declared missing and Zira wasn't in the suspect list. What caught her banished though was the fact that she attempted an open attack towards the royal couple. She and Scar's followers were banished to the Outlands, reuniting with the rest of the Outlanders that were banished at Simba's rise on the throne.

And we know the rest.
